Why would you have Turris over Gagner? Cause he plays for the Senators? I can sort of understand Zibby, but as of yet I don't see any reason to believe he'll ever be better than Gagner, considering Gagner is still only 23 and hasn't realized his potential yet. I bet you'd rather have Turris than Simmonds, too - JAKEw1234
You obviously lack reading comprehension, I even said Turris and Gagner are around the same but I would take Turris (Maybe begin a homer) but ill give you a reason for why.Kyles most common linemates alfie, methot and Philips. gagner has prv yakupov and Hemsky, guys who are more suited for scoring. Turris's most common opponents Phanuef, Chara, Kreijc to top d men and a top defensive forward Ganger had Suter who cancels out Chara Brodin and Stastney not a really known as a defensive stud.
Gagner gets up in a position to succed he is also insulated by guys like eberle and hall, also yakupov takes some attention away from him, when Karlsson spezza michalek are hurt turris and am agining alfie are our top offensive threats, when spezza is back furrows will be alot better because he will be insulated |

Or you just give Yakupov a bigger role... You guys have tons of potential 1st line players, I don't know why you act as if you must keep all of them and trade your lesser assets to get continually more 1st line players. You just want a team full of 1st line players - JAKEw1234
I am a Leafs fan.
I am noting that top-line players, whether you personally like or don't like them are worth a LOT because you simply can't replace them.
People slag Phaneuf, all day every day. Hell, half of the Leafs fan base slags him.
but where do you find a big, scoring Dman who plays 25+ minutes against the other team's top line?
The reasoning is the same.
There are a lot of guys who are interchangeable Top-pairing D, and top ten scorers are not on that list. |

I think we are going to see a fall-back this year for the Sens. - Aetherial
Yeah when Karlsson spezza come back adding bobby Ryan and Clarke MacArthur improved youngsters and full year of Anderson, but yeah we will do worse |

No your posting was good. I was going to point that out. I will correct my previous statement. Ottawa fans (except 6Karlsson5) over estimate their players. Their have been more than a few trying to send Smith to us for anyone. I think you have the first realistic value of your players and I think you are showing some of the Oil fans how much Gagner is really worth.
Most people on here want him gone because he is 3 inches shorter than what they would want him to be. Not due to any talent issues. He even hits more than anyone on our top 6 and he fights (stupid people that are often twice his weight but he beat up Kesler which makes him awesome). |

So you list a Leafs throw-away, 4 guys out of a 23-man roster and one is a 30 year old with back problems, one is going to try to return to form from a horrendous injury

I never knew until this year how much Ottawa fans over value their players. I think as Oiler fans we over value our 5 or at least know their future worth. However we under value everyone else. Smid, gagner, Hemsky... all under valued by most people on here. People didn't think we would get something for Horcoff and we ended up getting a guy that might eventually make the team. I think Hemsky is going to bring us a prospect and a pick or be instrumental in a larger trade.
However I am not against keeping him either. Lets face it, the Oil are not addressing our third line (Jones and Eager are MAYBYs in my book), why not keep Hemsky if there is nothing out there. Calling a spade a spade, our team isn't the most injury prone. With the exception of guys like Smid and Gagner, whom everyone wants to send out on the next plane. - Hall Fan
I agree with most of your points however Hemsky is NOT under-valued - he's a piece of glass that breaks every year & costs teams money because he's not playing.
And when he does play, he only plays when he wants to so that is a player that doesn't have much value & that is why he still remains an Oiler because other GM's know exactly what they're getting with him. Believe me, if everyone wanted him, he would have been gone at the trade deadline in a heartbeat. |

PRV is terrible and Hemsky is iffy. Don't try to pull an argument that Gagner plays with better linemates than Turris. I honestly had a hard time understanding the majority of this post, but I basically read it as the classic excuse of "My guy is better than your guy because my guy plays harder opponents". Ryan Suter is better than Chara and Phaneuf. They both play a 2nd line scoring center role, and both play pretty difficult opposition. I personally think Turris can't hold Gagner's jock strap, because at the same age in the same season, Turris puts up 28 points in 48 games where Gagner puts up 38. Turris has injury concerns. Turris has been up and down to the AHL, and is just now solidifying himself in the NHL. Despite their birthdays being 4 DAYS apart, Gagner has played 6 NHL seasons without being sent down, and has never played an AHL game in his life, where Turris has played 2 NHL seasons without being sent down, and has almost 100 AHL games under his belt. Turris will never be more than a decent-pretty good 2nd line player, where Gagner will be a solid 1b center who may not be able to be that #1 guy on a team, but will be able to fill in the 1st line role if necessary. The 2 really aren't very close at all, imo. |

If two years of Horcoff at a million more gets you a solid prospect, Hemmer gets you that as a rental. No one is deluded here, we just don't think we'll have to buy him out. |

Essentially. There isn't an immediate pressing need to move him unless the right sort of deal comes up. Mactavish has patience. He may be a new GM but he's not stupid.
I don't think he's done yet though. Despite Eks blatherings something else is coming. |

like many stated, 2nd round pick or 3rd liner or mid level prospect + late pick. either of the three options i'd be happy with. |

Letang would become your best player immediately. Edmonton fans are going to love his skill paired with their skilled forwards. - quinnjj
Letang scored by playing forward. Your team scored more in games last season that Letang wasn't in than in games that he was in, mostly because he rushes up and leaves your forwards who are actually expected to go on the rush to sit back and play defense for him. He's good, but definitely overrated. He's a better version of Mike Green. |

Up to this point in time it isn't close. Again despite Turris being 4 days older than Gagner, Gagner has nearly 200 more NHL games under his belt, and over 150 more points. Even in their NHL time, Turris has produced at a career average .44 points per game, and Gagner has produced .62 points per game over a much larger sample. To think Turris and Gagner are even players is just you over valuing your players and proving that you are, indeed, a big ol' homer. |

To be fair his ability to move the puck to the forwards would be pretty huge.
It's the own zone coverage that worries me. Probably Edmonton's main issue on D. That and giveaways in general. Not sure how Letang helps address those. Frankly, Id be more interested in Martin. |
