Yeah okay then we make the trade make the playoffs twice after missing it they make the trade and have a second and what rundblad has had what 12 games played and 1 point but yeah we lost the trade
- 6Karlsson5

Dmen take much longer to develop and he's only 22. Very few Dmen make the switch over to the NHL permanently before age 22. Only the best of the best (Pietrangelo, Subban, Hamilton) can do that, and Subban hasn't looked all that impressive until age 24. Good forwards take 1-2 years to reach the NHL, good Dmen take 4 or usually even more.

Hemsky, Gagner, 2014 1st and 2nd to Buffalo for Vanek and Stafford

Move Hall to C

Vanek Nuge Eberle
Perron Hall Yakupov
Stafford Gordon Jones
Smyth Steckel Brown

- 66chevelle

Edmonton doesn't need forwards. They need tons of defense and high end types at that.

He is going to keep getting better...I wish we could afford him.
He also plays with an edge to his game that I love.

- quinnjj

He is a good dman I'll give you that I just wish he wasn't so easy to hate

^The league totally swept this one under the carpet.

So then how do you know they lost the trade? I keep forgetting you can tell the future and know everyone's potential

Why the hell would Edmonton mortgage a big part of their future for a rental at this point? Be it Vanek, Miller, Phaneuf or anyone else. There's a good chance that we're not a playoff team this year anyways. Rentals are for teams that are already contenders, which we aren't. All this talk is just stupidity.

They have no choice if they can get Phanuef...he makes them better.

Well I know that's a major concern and cause he wants I much money I don't follow his contract situation but if he is gunna be a 1st liner what the problem?
- 6Karlsson5

Think about how many great players in the league don't have a NTC, and how bad an indicator of talent that is.

I would have taken it in the other direction. Look at all the piles of poop with NTC's...thanks Calgary.

Potential's all we have to go on right now. At the time of the trade, Turris had the potential of a 2nd line center. Rundblad had the potential of a #3, maybe on a stretch a #2 dman.

I'd take Phaneuf but I would not include Hall, Eberle, Nuge, Yakupov, Schultz, Klefbom, Nurse, or our 1st rounder.

If we were to part with any of those for a Dman, it sure as hell would have to be better than Phaneuf.

I'd do Eberle + 1st + prospect(s) to get Pietrangelo.

Turris's projected level was probably more than an average 2nd line center, thats why he was drafted third, with a third pick im hoping for top pairing dman or a top line forward, so by that measure he won't get past his projected potential, but of course Gagner will right? I mean he has been a 2nd line center his whole career but of course he will become a 1st line center like you say but turris can't be more than a 2nd line player because that's what he is now and Gagner had better season early in there careers good to know though that player you are arguing for will become better but turris wil stay put even though he is steadily improving and Maclean said he was one of the most improved players, and since Gagner is bound to be soo good why haven't the oil signed him I mean ill give a number one center a no trade clauses why would I want to trade someone so good?
- 6Karlsson5

Turris's value is he's a srong two way player. His Corsi value and GA/ while he's on the ice speaks to that.

Now that we added Perron, trade Gagner's ass for Matthias and a 2nd.

For the last time you don't know what there potential is and there are some number 2 centers I would take over number 3 d men an even if that is there potential turris is proven rundblad is not

Edmonton I think would have to give up Klefbom for him. Everyone would love to get Pietrangelo but you'd have to give up a top 6 forward, a top defenseman, a level A prospect and a 1st round pick for him.

Wait until Maclean's act wears thin in Ottawa.

I think we are going to see a fall-back this year for the Sens.

- Aetherial

Carlyle is the same kind of coach as MacLean what makes you think it wont happen to him. Again.

Neither of them were proven at the time of the trade. Of course, I'm not a scout, but you can use this new thing called the internet to get a general feel of how good a prospect is and get an approximation of their potential. That website I just posted has a lot of good stuff. They aren't right every time, but they're right almost every time. They list Gagner to have a better potential than Turris, and up to this point he has without a shadow of a doubt that he is a better player than Turris.

The apparent asking price for him is 2 top 6 forwards +. I've suggested Couturier, Read, Coburn, and 2 1sts for him, but a lot of people still don't think that'd get it done. He's a younger Shea Weber.

I think the main point is that the team doesn't have that awesome of a roster, they succeed because of coaching. If the coaching falls a bit short, the team will fall way short. It's not like Pittsburgh, who can have a (no offense) decent coach at best, but their stacked roster can still make them a top 3 team in their conference perennially.

That sounds about right except those forwards are not top 6 right now and there are cap considerations too.

Actually Read is but you're right Coots isn't yet. He has the potential to be a top 3 forward but ya that's still unproven. Cap considerations for us, or them?

Up to this point in time it isn't close. Again despite Turris being 4 days older than Gagner, Gagner has nearly 200 more NHL games under his belt, and over 150 more points. Even in their NHL time, Turris has produced at a career average .44 points per game, and Gagner has produced .62 points per game over a much larger sample. To think Turris and Gagner are even players is just you over valuing your players and proving that you are, indeed, a big ol' homer.

Man i would love to do that draft over again, i bet a lot of teams would including the Oilers.

Makes us better for 1 season then leaves as a UFA. So then next year we're even worse when the assets we traded aren't here and neither is Phaneuf? Another horrible idea.

Buffalo does not need Hemsky - period. It's going to take more than that to pry away Vanek. Gagner & 2014 first is a nice start though
- newmy

I dont hate getting hemsky too, so long as we move him at the deadline

Gagner at 6th I'm okay with. Plante at 15th and Nash at 21st is an effing disaster.
