Suggesting that Couture is even in the same convo as JVR and Gagner is a joke.
Couture will be on the Canadian Olympic team and is an elite talent in the same breath as Jamie Benn/Taylor Hall/Claude Giroux/Phil Kessel. Not quite Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos/Ovechkin... but not far behind. - steve362
Couture is good but Olympic team? Not to sure about that.
Duchene is a lock
Crosby if he is healthy
Giroux is a lock
Hall should be a lock
Eberle Has a good chance after the worlds
RNH Has a small chance
Stamkos is a lock
Getzlaf should be a lock
Perry should be a lock
Marleau should be a lock
St. Louis has a chance
Thornton will probably be there
Vinnny has an outside chance
Brad Richards will get a chance
Mike Richards will get a better chance
Jeff Carter could make it
Spezza won't but might get a tryout
Nash probably lost his spot after last years play but they will give him a chance
Bergeron will probably get a spot
Toews is a lock
Sharp could be there
Dupuis will be considered before being rejected
Horton is a long shot
Pomminville might for the first time have a chance
Hartnell will be considered but rejected for his penalties
Eric Stall is probably a lock
Shane doan outside chance
Heatley will probably miss this one
Iggy will also probably miss this one.
Couture has to be better than these guys. I only listed the ones that are arguably as good as couture or better.
Getting on Team Canada is going to be Tough. I see without it even starting
Giroux Stamkos Crosby
Perry Toews Getzlaf
Eberle Duchene Hall
Marleau Eric Staal Thorton
I know this team has tons of centers but this doesn't even fit in Mike Richards or Jeff Carter. Plus others that could bump some of these.

I'll say Hall's a lock, and Jamie Benn could make the team. Maybe Patrice Bergeron as well.

Crosby is my clear number 1, head over heels above the rest. Then Malkin, then Datsyuk then Stamkos. - TomKlassen
Depends what you are looking for. I think Malkin is the most complete player in terms of hitting and putting points up. Crosby is the most consistent for points if he is healthy. Stamkos is the guy you want on the ice if you need goals and Datsyuk is should be 4th on this list as he does everything but not as good as the other 3. |

Yeah. Thats right, I forgot Benn. Bergeron has a chance but with Stamkos, Toews, Thorton, Staal, Getzlaf, Crosby and Marleau already centers on the team, I think wingers will have an easier time getting on. |

Giroux would be terrible on a line with Crosby, they hate each other
Giroux does work quite well on a line with Stamkos, as evidenced by their performance at IIHF this year with Andrew Ladd on their line. |

Obviously the lines are a little off. Thorton would probably take center over Stall and moving Hall and Crosby would make that Eberle and Duchene combo crazy. They clicked really well at the world this year. Duchene I think we can all agree was the best player on that team. Adding crosby to his line would make them silly good. |

I'd put Bergeron on over Staal because of his two way play. Staal and Thornton are two sides of the same coin, albeit Thornton is older. |

Either way we are talking about top 5 players. Ovechkin should be thrown in that mix as well. I hate how he coasts but he can get points at will and play 30+ min a game if he is allowed. I say you can argue for any ranking of the 5. |

I'm of the minority that thinks Getzlaf and Perry might not make it. They're both slower than ideal for international ice and both are on a team that seems destined to experience heavy regression this coming season. The reason we had all these guys (along with Iggy) was because we were battling a much grittier USA team on NHL-sized ice. Now that we're on Int'l-sized ice, we'll have far less use for the muckier types and should be looking more at high-end speed and skill.
As such, I can easily see Couture taking the spot of one of Getzlaf or (more likely) Perry. If Eberle makes it, it's likely more as a replacement forward and on the back his chemistry with Hall and WJC history. I'd personally put Spezza in the line-up before I would Getzlaf, too. |

I agree. I don't like Thornton or Eric's play for team Canada in any tournament. However they always get picked. Maybe due to their size. There are arguments for Jordan and Sharp as they like to pick defensive specialists as well. I am thinking Canada should be allowed to enter two teams each year. |

Duchene looked much better out there on account of his skating. So fluid. |

lecavalier has NO chance
brad Richards has NO chance (this aint 06)

Bergeron is a lock
where's benn?
marleau is getting long in the tooth, same goes for joe.
no way eberle is ahead of couture at present.
and yeah, couture is unequivocally better than a bunch of those names u mentioned
u named a lot of older players who wont be around this time. |
