Phaneuf, for Coburn and Simmonds? - Rysko81

I actually love Phaneuf, and don't see him as a cancer at all. Tbh i wouldn't do that trade, just curious as to where your standards are. Imo theyre way too high loll. That said though, him and the Schenns probably aren't on best terms you're right. |

That wasn't me saying the trade isn't fair, that's me saying I want Phaneuf no where near this team. You don't actually know where my standards lie. |

yes. I've read that Vinny allows Giroux to return to his natural position. Buddy. You've lost all credibility to myself and everyone in this thread. You're digging yourself a bigger hole with dumb comments.
night - TheNugeIsHuge
Giroux's natural position is center, some believe Vinny will move to his wing. Though I doubt this will happen as he'll probably be slotted as our second line center with Couturier as 3rd. Schenn will move to wing. |

That's the best way to roll it. Then we have legitimate 1a and 1b lines. |

Just a little tidbit I didn't agree with in your blog... Martin is not a 3/4 guy, he is a #2 guy, and a good one at that. Easily our best dman last season. As for orpik though your right on him he is a 3-4 guy at this point. |

Yea the Nuge was arguing with someone stating Vinny will allow Giroux to move back to his natural position as winger. |

Ganger has value...id give him like 2 years 8-9mil. Let him earn the big term big money contract. IMO the oilers have to move one of their 4 top forwards not named Hall and bring in a true #1 defenseman.
Only sabre ud trade for hemsky is adam or sundher lol. - Djtyczy
Wrong. Oilers don't need to blow our loads for a top defender. We may not have the minute eater but this year we have loads of depth. We are fine on the much improved back end since Whitney isn't there anymore. |

OK. Look, I just ripped a guy for being a homer. And I never am a homer. I can take emotion out of my opinions.
But you honestly think Vanek is not a top 6 forward on Edmonton? What has anyone of those guys accomplished as much as he has in this league? - rmiethaner
Of course he is, but lets face it, we're not giving up on any of our kids and the price for 1 year of Vanek is too high. Why is this so hard for Sabres fans to understand ? |

All we really need is two bottom 6 wingers for the 3rd line. The 4th line needs help too but it can wait. We don't need anymore dmen unless it's a too pairing guy, and until then we can live without that player. |

He had a good year but he was much maligned for a year or 2 prior. Has he ever strung together more than 2 solid seasons in a row? |

As much as I am use to Eklund throwing stuff against the wall to see if something sticks, plus the fact he is being even more vague than usual (which usually means it won't happen) it's still fun to try and figure out the meaning.
His post before hand mentions Hemsky, the problem is we are all expecting him to be traded, so therefore it wouldn't be a "major" trade, it just would be a "expected" trade.
I doubt Eklund would leave a clue like pipeline either, just doesn't seem to to be the one that leaves clues like that, but, if it is the Oilers, and it's a "major" trade, I expect it's Gags
Him not being signed tells us there is a problem here. He either wants too much money, too much term, a NMC, or all 3, something the Oilers might not do. The Oilers also have too many defense men, so to make Richard happy, I will add smid as trade bait, as he has very high value right now.
If this is "major" trade with both players, you have to look at the total package of a higher end young 2nd line center and a vastly underrated defensive defense man that would be a number 3/4 on most teams, and entering his prime years. Looking at this, then a package of Gags and Smid together will bring back in value either a top pair defenseman or a 1st line center, though not a elite one.
By themselves they would bring back either a 3/4 defenseman, or a number 2 center, but it would be a player with a different skill set, like a PMD or a center with more size and grit as opposed to play making ability (Oilers have enough of those) Package a decent prospect with that, you get a higher level player as a return. It doesn't make sense to trade for a 3rd line player with either of those two.
As to who, Eklund mentioned Jersey, but I can see other teams as well. Philly especially jumps out, but also Boston and Pittsburg, especially for Smid. Boston though needs to dump salary, but they give out NMC and NTC like candy.
Could see the Oilers going after Adam Larsson, or Samuelsson, or someone that can play top 6 center with size if the Oilers also take Meszaros with him...
Guess we will find out soon enough. |

Hemsky to Buffalo for Foligno - why on earth would Buffalo do that? Foligno is a better player. Besides, you mention Buffalo needs scoring from wingers. Trading for Hemsky would still mean they need scoring from wingers. He isn't a scorer.
Stop with the Edmonton-Pittsburgh scenario. We aren't dumping Martin, our best defenseman last year, for picks and prospects or Jeff Petry. We aren't dumping Orpik either. We are dumping Niskanen. Do some homework. Its not rocket science.
Edmonton will be stuck with Hemsky for the duration. No one wants him that badly. It shows, because Edmonton has been trying to deal him the last three years and still have him. |
