Should avoid at all costs. Biggest problem last season was the fact no one was ever in front to screen the goalie and just cause a disturbance. Perimeter shots all day long with no traffic it drove me crazy. We really need to establish a better net presence this season and crash the net with a lot more vigor. Wouldn't mind adding a winger with some size but that would probably mean sacrificing some speed. Tough call to make. - NickA
Yeah I don't want him either. He has generated points when healthy but he's not always healthy and I'm not sold on his ability to produce points as consistently outside of a system built on rushing the puck with speed. Just having Clowe and Ryder should mean more traffic in front. Ryder is great in front of the net, so that part should certainly be improved this year. |

Agreed. Wouldn't mind adding Brunner and say Penner i think he's still out there. Penner has some scoring touch and he plays a big mean game. Sick of watching us play so soft. Penner is slow though and seems to get injured often. |

Arguably, a situation where he's the big puck possession threat treated him better. The 2006-09 Edmonton Oilers were not a high-skill system at all and that's when he had his best seasons, healthy or not. Health now is a pretty big concern; it's tough to bank on him to play many more than 65 games a season. |

Having seen both, I wonder if (regular season) Penner is actually softer on the puck than Hemsky. He's not easy to knock off the puck, but he doesn't win battles even a quarter as much as a guy his size should. Slick set of hands for a guy his size though, and he knows how to get into good areas. |

Most of the time I've watched Penner it's been the playoffs. May be why I think fairly highly of him. Always seems to take it up a notch during the spring. |

Just trade Larsson and Josefson for Vanek (and get extend his contract beyond next year by 3 or 4 years) and sign Brunner. There's plenty of d-man depth to cover Larsson's loss.

i think you guys are thinking too highly of wedgewood and kinkaid. if they were going to be something special i think they would've cracked the surface already. getting schneider proves that. and again, defense cant win the Cup in todays game. Rangers have proved that season after season since Torts arrived in NY. the Cup winners since the previous lockout has been won by scoring. With how teams plays and build their rosters, that term "Offense wins Game Defense Wins Championships" may be getting a bit outdated. Dont get me wrong teams I was on in nyoth hockey lived by that. I wona STate Championship with that motto. But with how the game has changed and players are becoming more skilled and faster, you need to rely more on scoring |

I know he's only 22, but has Josefsen really shown us anything that makes him worth all that much? Right now he's just "promising" -- no more than that. He's played in parts of three seasons and really hasn't proven that he's worth keeping at the NHL level. As well as he plays at the AHL level, some guys just don't make the jump well. I'm 100% fine with moving him if another team finds interest in him. |

I'd argue the Bruins in 2011 and even getting to the Finals this year was primarily on Defense and goaltending. Not that they have poor offense, but nothing like the Blackhawks, Kings, or Pens.

Or maybe wedgewood and kinkaid weren't ready for the NHL next season, considering they are still young. Its pretty typical for a goalie to be around 25 before they are on the NHL roster.
And basically the 3 best defensive teams made the conference finals. The worst defensive team got embarrassed in the conference finals. Its not overrated one bit. |

offense wins regular season games, with the post lockout rule changes and the parade to the penalty box, has increased scoring, problem is when the playoffs start and the older refs get the playoff assignments, there aren't nearly has many penalties, which means less power plays and less goals, teams that don't bother playing defense don't last long come playoff time. |

It took "The King" 5 years from when he was drafted, to splitting the '05-'06 season with WEEKES.
so yes, Wedgewood and Kinkaid have potential still.. even though Wedgewood is 20 and Kinkaid 24. Wow, I didn't realize Kinkaid was 24. |
