If it had won them a Cup, would you still hate it. - jmatchett383
Maybe it would have bumped it from hate up to ambivalent.

Had the Flyers won the Cup in 2010 the Pronger trade would surely been worth paying the price. Of course they didn't win, and he suffered a career ending injury which has caused the Flyers to essentially chase their tails since.

Absolutely not. Pronovost was the most injured man in hockey history. |

Simply demoting those kids before day 1 will get them cap compliant in time to max Pronger's LTIR exemption. That's good news. They can keep Mez too, while bringing everybody back up before game 1.
But they really can't sign anyone between now and day 1 if they hope to go this route. - Tomahawk
Probably late, but...as soon as B Schenn misses 1 game, his cap hit drops dramatically as well.
So there's that. |

Yes, but you have to sit him for a game. As long as they can fit him into the opening night lineup, his cap hit will drop dramatically after 1 game (assuming he plays less than 25 minutes). |

I think they had to scratch him from the first game before they could permanently lower his cap-hit for accounting purposes. |

Tyrion isn't as ruthless as Larry Flint. Tyrion was out only for himself, Larry Flint is out to disgrace whatever political/religious figures he can. |

Yup. The terms of his bonuses are something like playing every regular season game and playing for 25+ minutes per. So no matter how you break it down, 1 game into the season his cap hit takes a nosedive...but to your point, getting to Game 1 is a different story. |

Injured enough to have his skull crushed and for the NHL to initiate the All Star game for his benefit? |

The bonuses written into Schenn's contract are different for every year. I'm not 100% positive. But I beleive that the games played bonus is not part of his bonus package for the 3rd year of his EL deal. |

He has a bonus structure built into his contract that prior to the start of the season is counted in full.
Good write up here. |

If correct, that's quite interesting. I didn't know that, or even think it a possibility. |

There's a bonus cushion this year, so no need to do that again w/ Schenn.
The kids don't even have to miss any games to perform that little bit of cap wizardry that we were talking about, since the cap is calculated daily and not by game. |

There was no bonus cushion available that Season. So the Flyers were forced to do that to get Cap compliant. |

Regarding the 10% cap cushion and LTIR...does the one run out at exactly the same time the other kicks in? |

So it still applies or did the new CBA nullify that contract escalator. |

LTIR doesn't kick in until it's actually used. Teams have to be cap compliant on the last day of training camp. |
