How can he be a "very rare dman" yet "not elite" and routinely puts himself out of position" - Marshalle
He is very rare because it is not typical to see punishingly physical d-men be offensive. Usually they are bread and butter defensive d-men. He isnt. He is not elite, simply because he is not elite. He is not a Weber, Pietrangelo, Karlsson, Chara, etc.
He is a guy that lives and dies by being that agressive d-man. Its what makes him such a commodity in some facets, and what also has him potentially on the move again.

I agree. Assuming he's healthy, Coburn could be a very solid partner for Streit. - Jsaquella
I like that pairing too. I know we've seen Coburn play both the left and right side on D, do we know if he has a preference on a side to play consistently? And does anyone know the same about Streit? |

So much better than "Hungry for More" for 08/09.
Although my least favorite was "Why Not Us?" from SCF Game 4. - jmatchett383

- Flyskippy
I did take the hint skip... I tried to get a photo with Shelley and Walker but I had no luck... Had to settle for Pronger and JVR jerseys. |

ya but his was because he was/is too slow. - Marshalle
Slow was another gripe entirely.
Schenn used to get skewered for going for big hits and getting caught, especially early on in TO... fans clung on to those instances and it became part of the rationale for giving up on him. All I can say is that he looked fine in that respect as a Flyer.
Same with Dion. We are all familiar with the major instances of him running out of position... but what about the hundreds/thousands of times when he played it safe, made the right read and soundly denied a star opponent a scoring chance?
And it seems like his personality causes problems wherever he goes. I know this could be just perception but it is out there. - Marshalle
He's captain of the Leafs, and he was a leader for Team Canada, and an assistant w/ the Flames. I'm sure there are guys who don't like him, but then again, Pronger was a d!ck as well on and off the ice and he wasn't a cancer here.

haha, I loved when Dave Mustaine showed up on the Jumbotron for Game 4. That writer thought he was doing us a disservice; if anything, it got us all even crazier. |

My only concern with this pairing is that they both are easy whipping targets. I can't wait for the first major goof with this pairing. This board will explode.
Although if they are only out there for easier/offensive match up things will be better. It would save Timmonen/Schenn, and Gus/Grossmann for the harder to shut down lines. |

Meh. Weber will be a Flyer. His mothers cousin's, father's, sister's, daughter's, gym teacher from high school's, best friend had lunch the other day. Heard it was tasty. |

Can we get a matter combiner and somehow just combine Meszaros' overall skill set with Coburn's body? |

If we could get the forwards to at least attempt to back check a little more... we wouldn't notice most of these blunders.

I heard he has ties to the Flyers since he grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Flyers have had tons of interest in him and he's always wanted to play here.

Rumor has it, that him and Bobby Ryan are long lost brothers. Both were Born in Cherry Hill. Or was it on a cherry hill... I can't remember.

He is going to cost too much either as a trade (getting under the cap, giving the Leafs what they need player wise etc) or as a free agent, probably 7 mil+. Not for a guy whom is not going to make our team better. IMO of course.
And he hasn't been relevant internationally for almost a decade, World Championships during the playoffs don't count. |

Agreed. He's a good player, but I don't see him fitting in here with what we're doing.
Edit: For the price. If he could be had for $3M and we only had to trade a 7th rounder for him, then yes. |

I'm not ready to include Gus on a "shut down" pairing, granted I do have high hopes for him. I could see Grossmann and Coburn getting some shifts together late in games to protect a lead though. |
