Should be OK...Gotta MAx the line-up somewhere |

Well for one thing, the coach doesn't seem willing to use McGinn in a 4th line role. Probably because he's not an especially good skater and doesn't have a very good two way game.
Simmonds also progressed faster than McGinn, jumping immediately from being a 3rd year junior player to the NHL on the Kings' third line. McGinn played 4 years of junior, really didn't do much to earn a NHL shot before opening some eyes late in his AHL rookie season.
Until Gagne is signed, I'm not going to include him in proposed line-ups anyhow. Obviously if he does end up back here, he'd trump McGinn on the third line, and Talbot and Rinaldo being on the 4th line would likely see McGinn playing in the AHL - Jsaquella
I'm not even a little torn between Gagne and any kid in our system. A 33 year old Gagne with a history of serious injuries is better then anything we have developing. I think he helps make us a contender. |

It's a matter more of contract slots and cap room than a preference for McGinn over Gagne or vice versa. Gagne hasn't been re-signed, so I don't have him on my radar yet. |

I would like to get Laughton in. I think he'll be bored in the CHL. I think he can and will work his ass off in camp and preseason to make it impossible to cut him from the roster. If he makes it I imagine Hall would be our 13th and Rosehill would go down to the AHL. |

Nope, and he could force his way onto the team with a strong camp. If Laughton makes the team, I'd consider using him on the 4th line with Hall & Rinaldo and bumping Talbot up to the 3rd line. |

I realize the Flyers have some young forwards, but playing players like Laughtan and McGinn is necessary for their development. it's a fine line you walk. With injuries and the like signing a player like Gagne wouldn't be a bad idea as long as it doesn't hurt the cap. Assets are always good. |

That's fair. The only hurdle we have is to get rid of Meszaros. |

I don't think Laughton is hurt with another year in the OHL, or McGinn in the AHL playing a top 6 role. |

That could be a big hurdle. $4mm cap hit isn't easy for cap team to absorb, $5.5mm salary is a hard pill for teams trying to get over the cap floor and the injury history is worrisome to everybody. |

Ionly say that because neither dominated those particular levels. Laughton had a very good breakout year for Oshawa, but he wasn't a dominant force, just played really well. He could probably handle NHL time now, but I can't see going back to Oshawa, as the first line center, being that detrimental.
For McGinn, he'd see a lot of ice time as a Phantom, probably getting a ton of PP opportunities, to boot. |

Rosehill isn't here to play a regular shift on the 4th line, he's here to beat guys up.
Also, to be fair, he's actually not as bad a skater as I thought he was.
But if Rosehill's dressed, he's playing 3-4 minutes. It's not helping McGinn to play that small amount, better to play in the AHL.
Also, Rosehill is likely the 13th forward, as the 4th line will probably be Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo - Jsaquella
With G, Hall, and Vinny, and assuming marked improvements from B Schenn and Couts, we should have a good to very good faceoff team this year. That's big. |

I personally think having Talbot on the 4th line is a waste. If they're going to use Couturier as the 3rd line Center, and to check other teams top lines. Then you want Talbot on the Wing, not McGinn. |

Other then sentimental reasons, I'm not sure why so many folks want Gagne re-signed so badly. Yes, he played well last year, but the odds of Gagne even being healthy by April are slim at best and he is certainly not the same player he was a few years ago. With Timonen, Lacavalier, Talbot, Hartnell etc.. they have enough leadership/role models, so I would rather save a contract spot and go with youth.
At this point, I would try to move Mez, and if unable, I would reluctantly trade Grossmann and just go with the following:
Forwards
Hartnell-G-Voracek
Schenn-Vinnie-Simmonds
McGinn or Talbot-Coots-Read
Talbot or Hall-Laughton or Hall-Rinaldo
Rosehill
defense
Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Coburn
Gustafsson-Grossman or Mez
Bourdon or Gervais

I think McGinn is best served this year as a top line forward on the phantoms.
If we can get gagne in here for the 3rd line. I'm ok with it, even though our bottom 6 group would be undersized |
