Just my opinion: No matter what anyone thinks of Paul Holmgren, I think he plays chess as a GM.
I think Clarkie was a checkers player as a GM.
Homer may not be the best chess player, but I think I'd rather have Homer than Clarkie (as a GM) at this point. - johndewar
Same board, different pieces. Very poignant observation! Well done.

bleacher report is the worst. They have the most obvious prejudice against the Flyers. It's actually annoying to read their stories about league-wide standings, because it always comes down to the Flyers being terrible.

Despite adding the best free agent of every position, we're one of like 3 teams on that entire list that either did not get better or got worse. - JAKEw1234
JSaq touched on it in one of his article and he was right.
1.) Criticize the defensemen.
2.) Criticize the goaltending.
3.) Homer sucks, amirite?
4.) Add water.

I don't know this guy, but espn is kinda harsh on Homer. All points have been discussed here before, but shows why espn sucks for hockey. - Adam1
BAHHHHH!!!! Generalities.
Jagr wasn't a mistake that cratered the first line when Vorachek took his spot. I still think Giroux suffered from the injury he incurred in Germany.
Emery was a good move the first time and a good move this time.
There's probably a reason he's getting a pass for the goalie mess.
I'm nervous about our coach. I don't like him.
The team seems new without Bryzgalof. I'd have liked to have seen a new coach too. |

Clarke was a good GM for the pre salary cap era. Homer is a good GM for the post salary cap era. I'm not sure why Clarke get hammered around here. We had more sucess outside of winning a cup with Clarke as GM then just about anyone else. I started watching hockey in 96. 96-the season without a name, we were one of the most dominate teams in the league. |

I think of Homer more along the lines of Chutes and Ladders. Clarke, closer to Battleship. |

Yeah, Voracek stepped into Jagr's shoes pretty well last year, I thought (slow start not withstanding). The problem was on the other wing, Hartnell went down with an injury and wasn't exactly flying when he returned. |

I guess Grossmann, Coburn and Luke Schenn all retired from hockey.

Here is something fun. The Flyers all-time Bum team. My friend and I were doing this, him with the rangers and me with the Flyers. You pick out the biggest bums ever to play at least a season for your team. Either they were draft busts, or you hated them.
I'll give you my first line...

They play on-the-road too, so they don't count. I think that's their logic. |

He took 5 very different teams to the Cup finals as a GM in 20 yrs. That's not so bad I'd think. |

Hey, the bum talk is the jurisdiction of jmatchett and MJL. Thankfully, they've taken their posterior talk to PM's. |
