I think we should bring in another NHL talent. We're still grooming Schenn and Couturier for the most part. I could care less if Laughton or McGinn earn a spot this season. I think Gagne at the right price is an upgrade over them both. Another guy have interest in is Brendan Morrow on the third line. In his prime he was considered a power forward but now I think he could be a very effective grinder for whomever picks him up. He also has a pretty balanced two way game. Gagne and Morrow have my vote. |

Is it Good sign that on the day they name our division the Metropolitan, we are also kicking the poop out of the poopty Metropolitans? |

Id rather go with the kids now, if they think they need the veteran at the deadline. Then trade for one. If theyre out of it by the deadline then theyre in big big trouble. |

McGinn - hereticpride
I'm all for handing McGinn a permanent roster spot the moment one of Schenn or Couturier becomes a consistent point producer in the top six. I don't care which one of Schenn or Couturier but one of them. Let's get them going before forcing another kid into the NHL. I want a Cup every year. I don't think my view is unreasonable. I would rather have Brendon Morrow skating on one leg for 60 minutes if it means winning a Cup because I know Brendan Morrow will do it. I don't think he will, I know he will. |

I'm not willing to take the chance. I would rather a guy at a reasonable age who's been around the block and the know how to get the job done. Simple as that. |

So...the top 2 teams from each division make the Dance along with 2 wild cards.
How does the seeding go? What if the 2nd place team in the Atlantic Division has a better record than the 1st place team in the Metropolitan? Does it go by a conference seeding, at that point? |

ha i thought your source would be
Hockey Buzz Eklund @Eklund 10h
The Flyers are NOT in on Jaromir Jagr as of this moment despite him changing his twitter background to the Wells Fargo crowd.
pretty much guarantees they are in on him |

I am insanely surprised we haven't taken a run at Weber and/or AP by now. Very shocked. |

The problem is, Morrow doesn't mean winning a Cup. Nor does Gagne. They can be solid role players, for sure, but at this stage of their respective careers they're hardly make or break guys.
They still will have to clear some money and a contract slot to add Gagne. I think they'd like to bring him back, but they'll have to make a move. It's very possible they do as Bill suggested a few blogs ago, and see if Gagne will agree to come to camp on a "tryout" basis, and then get signed after they do their LTIR finagling and/or send Laughton back to Oshawa. |

I'm not. Holmgren wanted Weber as a free agent. If he wanted to trade a poopload of assets for him , he would have done it last summer.
As for Pietrangelo, they can't offer sheet him because they don't have the cap room or contract slot available....and in trade, well, I doubt they would agree to the price |

Homer always finds a way to get who he wants and make it work. It wouldn't be a shock to me if he had two or three back burners waiting on Weber or AP |

I wouldn't underestimate the importance of role players. I would prefer one more role player who has simply been around the block a few times. The mind set for each GM in the league should be to place the best possible line up on the ice as possible. As I'll continue to say, signing Gagne is the best move because he's better then anything we have in the system. We're already a young team. How young do we really need to be? Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, the Schenn Brothers, Read, Couturier, Gustafsson and Mason are all young as it is. Luke Schenn will be expected to play big minutes in the playoffs and has yet to make the playoffs in his career. Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Erik Gustafsson, Matt Read and Steve Mason I believe have all played in the playoffs once each. - dingo8urbaby
I'm not discounting the need for vets, just saying that they have plenty of time to address it.
If the need is there for the playoffs, they can trade for a veteran third or fourth liner at the trade deadline. Perhaps, instead of an injury prone guy like Gagne, they can land a guy who doesn't have a history of missing significant time. Even Morrow has missed significant time in three of the last five seasons. |

.... UNSTOPPABLE - FlyerMike18
Depending upon the money of course, I'd be ok with Jagr since they don't seem to have any younger options. They need a good LW sniper more in my opinion. But I would do:
hartnell-giroux-jagr
schenn-lecavalier-voracek
read-couturier-simmonds
talbot-hall-rinaldo
This also gives Couts steady linemates who could score to help his offensive growth and adds a speedy playmaker on Vinnie's line.
If he wanted to take a huge cut for 1st line minutes say 1.5 - 2 million, Homer should seriously consider it.

You should never take joy in another person getting hurt but with every injury comes an opportunity for another player. I think a player such as Gagne just needs to revive his career if he can stay healthy. It's a slim chance Gagne could have a healthy season but not impossible. Technically Gagne is just coming off a healthy season. With this said, should a player like Gagne not stay healthy, that always opens the door for McGinn to play for us part time, which I prefer. McGinn should sharpen his play further in the AHL. I thought he was good when he played for us, not great. Intact I thought he started strong for the Flyers, got pounded, gained an eye injury and wasn't the same player after that. |

I agree. Do what they can to get under the Cap, and bank Cap space. Play one of the kids. If they feel they need a player at the deadline, make a move then for a veteran.
