In my humble opinion you get better by playing against tougher competition. I would want laughton to go up against the best competion that he could before stepping up to the nhl. Plus the flyers can train him as they see fit. In the CHL the flyers have no control over his development.

A month of training camp and preseason should help in that regard.

Gretzky scored 92 in his highest scoring season
- griouxmvp2012

His 92 was prorated to the all-time GF average of the Red Wings in attempts to get an all-time stat that doesn't take bias to teams or eras. It's not perfect, obviously. Equipment, modern tactics and strategies, more advanced conditioning, more refined technical skills, and hundreds of other variables change, so it obviously isn't a perfect stat.

Laughton should go back to the OHL, he will gain nothing from playing in the NHL with the Flyers. The only way he gets in is on the 4th line and I believe it will hurt his offensive game to be put in a shutdown role like they did with Coots

Thanks for the vid.

Morin didn't look slow at all to me. He's never going to be a speed demon, but the size of his body makes it look like he's moving a lot slower than a player like Ghost who is really churning his arms and legs and starts motoring.

Morin looked good down-low on both ends of the puck on those drills with Haag. And it was pretty easy to see Haag has a better shot and release.

About two hours after the blog was published, I received a Twitter message from RJ himself yesterday asking me not to have to wrong info in the blog. I apologize for the mistake. I wasn't aware of the actual story until yesterday, but it's something that Umberger has corrected repeatedly.

I heard he has a Mount Rushmore type tattoo and instead of presidents he has Snider, Clarke, Shero and Kate Smith covering his back.

It's just what I heard.

Agreed. Couturier playing in 11/12 definitely has stunted his growth. Same with Richards. Ruined those guys.

Coots scored 13 goals had 27 points and was a +18 during his rookie season. He followed it up with an impressive playoff run. How did that impede him? He's only 20. The scoring will come.

The question also has to be asked: will he gain anything by playing in the OHL?

He will dominate and everything will come easy to him. That will make him a better player instead of playing against the worlds elite.

I'm telling you that his 92 goals has been prorated and adjusted accordingly with the goal-scoring level of his team as well as the scoring tendencies of the era. In a timeless scenario his 92 goals would theoretically be worth around 55 goals.

Also, if he comes up to the NHL and he looks like he's not contributing at the NHL level, he can still be sent down. If nothing else, I'd at least give his the tryout.

He'd get something, just not nearly as much as in the NHL. You could even look past the TOI he'd get and just value what he'd get from practicing in the NHL with NHL players vs practicing in the OHL.

First-step acceleration seemed a bit sluggish, but Morin looked remarkably good skating backwards, changing directions and gathered a decent head of speed on some of those 200' drills.

His puck handling was surprisingly good, as was the quickness of both his wrister and slapper. You can tell he's still learning to handle his big body, though... he bungled a pass reception and sprayed a few shots, but overall I thought he looked great.

Hagg was obviously the more polished guy, especially with the puck, and he held his own in those one-on-one battle drills against Morin.

Stolarz looked pretty good, but the reliance on the V-H stance made me have flashbacks of Leighton:

That will certainly happen. Do you think anyone else gets the tryout? Morin or Hagg? Is Ghost eligible for a tryout or not because of NCAA rules.

I actually didn't mean to start an argument, I just spent enough time on that to feel like sharing my results
He didn't even understand what I did. I prorated his goal number to 55 and he though I just flat out said that wayne gretzky's career high in goals was 55.

On Bobby Clarke's first NHL shift, he tried to put it between a player's legs, and had it stolen and it ended up in his net. He clearly should have been cut.

The sarcasm is strong with this one...

But I agree. I don't think staying in the OHL benefits Laughton in any way.
