My guess is his speed is a better asset outside on the wing where he can get more clean shots off - philco28
Sharp is pound for pound the best Hawk forward along the wall...And one of the best in the NHL....That trait isn't utilized as much while playing center.

Actually a tablet is great to use, even a mini iPad. Smart phones screen is too small and touching buttons to use quote feature, for example on my Motorola droid, was always a real pain. But cheer up, since now Samsung has a very large note tablet where you can divide a screen in half. You could do hockeybuzz and check on emails. The app features will soon be on the multi task split screen. I am waiting to see how apple designs their next tablet - don't want to fall behind Samsung as they have, in fact, lost sales to Samsung this year.
Note: I watched the entire final Cup game on my mini iPad. The entire game did put me over my data plan. Here's some good news: with Verizon it is only $10 to add on another device (iPad) to your plan. And no contract on the iPad when added to an existing plan. If you have a computer at home, then you could have games from the computer go to your tablet. The tablets are a convenient size to take anywhere with you, although a notebook surely is more powerful. |

And another thing, where did this myth start that Detroit doesn't pay for goalies? Look at Howard's contract. Hasek? Joseph? They forked over some cash there. - mcmasterkev
LOTS OF CASH!! The red wings bought at least 1 of those cups. They and the rangers have to bear loads of responsibility for the lost season. They overpaid guys like Hull, robitaille, chelios, and larionov to play secondary roles. They gave Hasek 8 mil a year. SYDNEY CROSBY MAKES 8 mil a YEAR!!!
To their credit, having those vets allowed them to draft and SLOWLY develop their recent core...and lidstrom, obviously, was a brilliant feather in their cap. But the wings spent heavily in those years and that was as much of a reason as any why they won. |

Samsung now has a large screen for note phone. Only phone I know that you can divide screen and therefore multi task. Have not actually tried it. But the Samsung note tablet is very nice. Battery life said to exceed apple current iPad, although I have not verified that. Next season I want also either the note tablet or new iPad. Sync all Apple would be first choice, but want to see how Apple does with split screen multi task.
You could use a mini for things you have done with a smart phone. The large tablet you could take anywhere with you at home. Maybe watch On The Fly in your recliner while pecking away at hockeybuzz. A martini too? |

That wouldn't surprise me too much either however the one huge intangible Seabrook brings is leadership. One could argue that it was Seabrook's leadership in getting Toews to regain his focus was the reason the Hawks were able to get past Detroit. - paulr
Great point. Seabrook really sold me.He also played a big role a little later on in the boston series. I was one of the people saying to look at trading seabrook since he would bring back a nice return. But now I think he is a keeper, along with Toews, Sharp, Keith, AND KANE Hammer and hossa right under those 5. |

What feed? The nbc sports one with edzo and doc? Every now and then nhl network shows a replay using the tsn feed. It is better. I like when they show Bickell and Crawford's families and their reactions. Even showed stan bowman's reaction. |

Not sure if we're talking about the same broadcast but game 6 was not featured here in the Detroit area due to the downtown fireworks display; kind of representative of what the city has been doing with it's money for the last 30 years or so.
Anyway, we had the CBC feed and after the tying goal by Bickell I was texting a friend about it. I looked up and was like wtf just happened? Did the Hawks just score again. We all know they did but from that feed you'd have never have known it. They re-played the NBC feed the next day and I dvr'd it. Though I sometimes get annoyed with Doc Emerick, at least his call on the goal was one worthy of something that likely represented the final goal and an exclamation point concluding a great series. |

I have both, NHL Network rebroadcast the TSN feed the following day and I have that one too. |

I would be floored if the Hawks got Hammer at $4.5 mil. IMO he jets next offseason for top d-man money. When you factor in his age, he's probably the #1 UFA d-man in next Summer's free agency. Even if the Hawks keep him at a discount, look at Seabs contract and that's the comparable. - dan9189
Doubtful they get him at that figure. If I am Bowman, that's where I would START on a proposal for a long term deal. $4.75-5 million per? More likely.
You get this deal done before the summer. You don't let this guy go. This team is built around exactly what this guy does and the kind of depth and flexibility he adds for the coaching staff.

Got caught up today and was not able to acknowledge a point you made. That is I agree there is no way you pay CC5 million a year. Frankly, I do not pay any goalie that amount. Elite or not....
Boston paying Rask his deal is akin to the Luongo deal. Not saying that his game is similar physically or mentally. What I think is the risk of something not working out over that period of time is wayyyy tooo great... - TrueGrit
I agree. Just because other teams put that much money into their #21 goalie slot, it doesn't mean the Hawks will or should. Especially not with the defense they have and the system they play.

An opportunity to meet Corey Crawford and have personal items signed by him, or purchase items signed by him July 28 at the Lake Barrington Field House. Portion of proceeds to benefit a child with cancer.

Too funny!
And I just got accused of making personal attacks for doing nothing more than defending the Stanley Cup Winning/Jennings Trophy Winning Goalie while responding to no one in particular.
While the guy who accused me just laid a string of like six personal attacks on some poor guy for no reason other than that he disagreed with him that would make a 12 year old girl proud.
It's a madhouse, I tell you! A madhouse! - mcmasterkev
Well, it's just so ironic that many of the Crow Lovers were huge Huet bashers. But he won a Jennings, behind a much worse team. Or maybe that says something about the value of the Jennings.

No butterfly....
Glenn Hall created the butterfly and I saw many a a home game he played in.
The classic butterfly goalies didn't go forward after pucks in play out front.
It is more Hasek like, with some stand-up, but what sets it apart is that he is rubbery and willing to basically throw caution to the wind to break things up.
I am willing to bet they try and reel him in...
John over the last two decades teams like San Jose na dothers found these "foreign goalies as a way to replenish restock and trade their Euro backstopers...
I don't htink this is a handwritting on the wall move...do they really know that this Finnish goaler CAN be an NHL stopper? I don't think they know that...just that if they can JUST pay money to find out, it is nice try & no assets are relinquished.
If the teams success and noteriety gets UFA Euros to come here, they are playing a flawless hand of cards...
I am sure they want to keep Crow's pay reasonable, but IF they REALLY were panicked by his results, they could have offered a whole lot more than the Leafs did and had Bernier show his upside (or not) THIS YEAR....even after signing Raanta as future...
EITHER wouldn't be fully ready or capable to take a starters role as Crawfords deal ends, but Bernier HERE would signal they want change NOW....
I can think of many Euro goalies who make that signing and cannot become that guy...just what makes you think THIS Euro goaltender is the exception?
The idea is to strengthen the long term team and every LeBlanc and Raanta just shows you are constantly looking and evaluating, because the CAP forces you to.... - wiz1901
I think it's maybe, umm, naive to assume this is all face value. Why would Raanta sign with the Hawks—when there were other teams in the running who likely could (abnd did) promise him a real shot at starting? What did the Hawks therefore say to him to get him to come with them?
It's just not really plausible they just walked in and cut in line in front of 5-6 other teams and signed him—and there is no back story.
Do the Hawks know he can be a #1 in the NHL? No, I don't think it is a lead pipe lock. But do they have the scouting, and did he have production in the SM-Liiga to indicate it is highly likely he will be? Yes. He was marginally better than Antti Niemi at the same age in the same league. Is Niemi a #1. Yes. Is he a good one? Yes.
If you're saying this is just a depth replenishing move and has no bearing on Crawford next summer, I'm 99.9% certain you're wrong. He's too good, too many other teams wanted him. Period.

Stanton's contract is on capgeek.com. They have the deal as a 2 year contract at $550K per and the 2nd year being 1 way. All the article I've seen (including nhl.com) say it was a 1 year deal.
For those numbers, I certainly hope it's a 2 year deal. |

I think it goes without saying that every organization is looking for the next guy to replace their best guys. Some positions have more of an urgency.
Gonna be tough year for hawks. Another Condensed schedule and literally half the team going to Russia for Olympics.

Fun Fact
No goalies earning north of $5 mil per year in the salary cap era has ever won the cup. The closest was Tim Thomas and MAF at $5.00 per.
Every other current goalie that has a salary north of that with a cup was earning less than $5 per when they won and got PAID after |
