Detroit is dead
I cant believe the red wings want to stay there when half he population of the city is illiterate and could not spell red wings
Detroit is the perfect example of government central planning and its eventual results. just think fifety years ago Detroit had the highest per capita income in the united states
Noone is moving back to Detroit and anyone that can is moving out
The red wings should go across the river to Ontario for their new home

I guess if you want to highlight illiteracy, perhaps you should put in the effort to spell words correctly and such.

Just sayin'.

But it is a lot more harsh to fire him in front of the cameras. He deserves it. At 1st I thought it migt be to announce signing Crawford to an extension. Some UNcredible sites thought so, too. Who knows, though? Announcing a few big extensions is more like McD's M.O. Especially during a fan convention. I'm sure it is only coach Q, though

Then the Hawks would hire another assistant coach, the PP would suck again (for the 3rd year in a row), because the personnel are the same.

Does the "new" coach get all the blame yet again?

Just asking...

I agree that it is more on the players as far as the pp goes. We really need a pointman that can get the puck TO THE NET. I think we have enough players to stand in front of the net. But I just think we need a new asst. Coach, too. There are some good ones out there

I agree. While Q is very popular no doubt and a huge part of the Cups, I agree that major would be a player, or 2, plus Q

I would think they would do Q separately from anyone else - give him a deserved day in the sun all by himself.

Yeah guess you are right. I think they did that on his 1st extension, too. I don't know if I ever saw a press conference with both a player and the coach anyway. Too bad. Was hoping for a Hammer extension

Should be interesting with johns and holl finishing their senior years in college and Fournier finishing junior, that would be three defense prospects ready for the pros. All high draft picks as well. I wonder if there will bedroom in Rockford for all three or if perhaps holl goes to the echl, because the possibility exists that the hawks might sign one of the three swedes they just drafted.

Think you are right. Just afraid of what the terms will be. Even though the cap will be going up, I don't like having 7 players making north of 5 million. What can you do, though?

Yeah the blueline is going to start getting crowded. That is good, though. I think we do need to draft or trade for a top-2 d-man, though. I really like our forward depth. Even with Hossa and sharp getting up there, we look really solid up front for years. But I don't see any replacements for Keith, Seabrook, and Hammer yet

Fish of a thousand casts. Very hard to catch, let alone a big one. Dan McNeil of the Score is apparently quite the muskie fisherman.

I have been fortunate enough to fish for pike all over Canada, and they are a lot of fun to go after, especially with topwater bait, and a lot more action.

- John Jaeckel

My daughter teaches at the Native reserve of Kashetchewan on the west coast of James Bay on the Albany river. The Natives took her fishing for pike last year on the Albany and she reeled in a 38 pounder. One of the Natives said he would clean it for her and return it the next day. She never saw it again.

The legendary Mike Kostka signed for NHL $625,000 and Drew Leblannnnn(c) at $575,000 a little less than what Stanley Cup "veteran" Andrew Shaw made...

You do wonder how the salaries along with results will play into the "major league elevations" of the guys above and Smith ($562,500), Beach ($550,000) over Brandon Pirri ($870,000), Hayes ($875,000), and Morin ($886,667).

Note interested parties Paul Ranger was signed for $1,000,000 with the Leafs, and if they really DO have " the best collection of defensive prospects in the NHL" this says:

those prospects are not ready...
and they didn't think Kostka was THAT good.

But I would really love to know the story behind Paul Ranger quiting hockey when with Tampa in the 2009-10 season, and exactly why he stepped away from the sport.

- wiz1901

Kotska did play for the majority of the season on the Leafs first defensive pairing, that’s a fact.

Kotska is a strong skating defensive defenseman who plays a simple mistake free game, those too are facts.

The Leafs having the best defensemen in hockey is debatable but The Leafs are in fact stocked with a number of solid prospects on defense all of them younger than Kotska.

Kotska didn’t fit in with the Leafs for the reasons of too many prospects, age etc.. That doesn’t mean he is not able to play in the NHL because clearly he can as he has proven. Kotska had 3 offers from teams who need defensemen on their NHL clubs yet he chose to sign for the Blackhawks. Does logic not tell you that he signed believing he had a good chance to play for the Hawks in the NHL next season? I realize you think you know more than everyone but in some cases other people have more insight to certain situations you do not. You may prove to be correct about Kotska which I’m sure you’ll let me know. I wonder if you’ll admit you were wrong if I happen to be correct? I promise if I am right I won’t rub your nose in it.

PS. I left you a PM.

Of course he does! It always surprises me that people completely ignore the fact that the PP sucked before Kompon got here. I guess it is easier to hope that replacing yet another PP coach will do the trick than it is to acknowledge that it could be on Q (system he might force on the PP coach) or the players. I am a big fan of Q and these players, but to blame the PP trouble on Kompon is to ignore history.

The PP went downhill when they lost their PP QB Brian Campbell. Get a guy who can run the powerplay and if he has a big shot with a quick release even better and I bet Kompon suddenly becomes a genius.

I feel the Hawks are built to sustain this type of structure for at least a while. Sign the core to long term deals, seldom trade for anybody at the deadline thus keeping most of your picks, pump the fringe players up via team success, trade them for picks to perpetuate the lower line carousel. With the cap jumping back up next year, I see no reason to fret the signing of Hjalmarson even if it is a number north of 5 mil for 7 years or so. I'd be more worried with what Kane and Towes are going to demand in a year. Not that I think they will take the Hawks to the cleaners, but by then, they could come to the table demanding 9mil per on 8 year contracts. Not that it's going to be that tough of a pill to swollow considering they're goinging to be resigned anyways, but that's going to be some big numbers going on the books for a long time...

Kostka is an excellent under the radar signing at very reasonable money. Good, late developing player who will stay at home and mind the area around his own net, kill penalties etc. The Hawks know that Rozsival can't play 82 games and they probably also think some of their other D men will get banged up over the course of the season which will again be compacted because of the 20 day Olympic break. It also says to me that Clendening won't be seeing the NHL for a couple more years which is a good thing.

The Leafs were stuck because they have Phaneuf at huge money; overpaid, useless J-M Liles who Carlyle doesn't care for; had to sign Gunnarson or trade him for next to nothing; want to play Jake Gardiner this year and have Mark Fraser and some good kids in the AHL that will be pushing for a job soon.

This is really not a concern as of now. Next summer is the time to speculate on it, unless one of these guys ends up dropping out during the school year and turns pro. If that happens, I'm sure the organization will find the room to place that certain player.

If you really look at it, Kostka and Peckham have one year deals. Svedberg and Nightingale are on one year AHL deals. That's probably four defensive spots that will be available in Rockford for the '14-'15 season, provided any of these four are not brought back, or Svedberg is not given an ELC. Stanton has a one way deal that kicks in for the '14-'15 season. That could open up another spot provided he's up with the big club on a full time basis in '14-'15.

There will be room for the likes of Johns, Holl and Fornier in Rockford or Toledo in '14-'15. There is nothing to worry about when it comes to that.

Exactly! Kotska also allows the Hawks to entertain trade options. Or if they feeel they cannot re-sign a certain UFA by the trade deadline they have the option of moving him for something as Kotska plays a similar style of game
