Being from the Windsor, Ontaro there was a lot of buzz around here during the Stanley Cup Final in 1997 for the Red Wings and Flyers. I would also say Paul Coffey had a helping hand as to why I'm a Flyers fan today. He was a pretty big deal as a Red Wing, traded to Hartford along with Keith Primeau for Brendan Shanahan at the 97 trade deadline. So basically after the final and being more familiar with the Flyers, they managed to pick up Paul Coffey, so you could say I followed Coffey to Philly. You could also imagine my excitement when Primeau was traded here for Rod Brind'amour. The reason I stayed interested in the Flyers was simple, the Legion of Doom. Who didn't know who they were? I was about 14 when I became a Flyers fan without zero push or pressure from anyone. Strictly my choice in an area who obsess over the Wings, Leafs and Habs.
I have never seen a game in Philadelphia. I went to see my first game March 12 2002 at the ACC in Toronto. Jeremy Roenick, Mark Recchi, John LeClair, Keith Primeau, Rick Tocchet, Simon Gagne, Eric Desgardins, Justin Willams, Brian Boucher were all there and Bill Barbar was coaching. It ended in a 1-1 tie. John LeClair scored the lone goal for us and Gary Roberts the tying goal in the dying moments of the game. I've never missed the Flyers in Detroit since the last lockout before the season's lockout. I've even gone to two games alone. I also saw Mike Richards score his first two man shorthanded goal at the ACC. I've also managed to see a number of London, Ontario preseason games, which means the world to me. 12 Flyers games total since 2002. Fan since I was 14 and I'm 31 one now.... - dingo8urbaby

No, absolutely not.
As good as Weber is you hurt your team more overall by losing 3 valuable assets. |

Glad you guys see it that way. Weber is a nice piece, but that's 3 young pieces. 2 top 6 and 1 top 4. |

I regret that I wasn't old enough to really understand hockey when the Flyers won their Cups; I was only 7 years old in 1976. I understood the game a lot better in 1979, which is when I identify myself as a fan.
So. I was onboard for the 35-game unbeaten streak, the blown call by Leon Stickle (though, if you're being REALLY honest, that call wasn't the reason the Flyers lost that series, though it is easily one of the worst calls in hockey history).
The death of Pelle Lindbergh hurts me the most, as a fan of the team, because I was still a kid. I was still at the age where I thought players were invincible.
My favorite team was the 2004 team -- I've said it before on here, but to this day I still am saddened that team didn't win the Cup. I think it's the best team the Flyers have had in the 33 seasons I've understood the game -- not flashy, but very, very good.
Favorite player, despite all the drama, was/is Eric Lindros. Sad that his time in Philadelphia was marred by so many other things that had nothing to do with how he was on the ice. |

Oh, also I saw the Flyers finally beat the Red Wings in their own barn on January 2nd 2011. It was the first time they did so since November 4th 1988. |

For me. I'm 30 years old and started to watch aroun 95-96. Lindros era is how I started and still is my favorite team
Self taught. My father and brother didn't watch sports. I remember as a kid stopping at a friends house during Halloween and a hockey game (assume it to be the flyers) was on. I thought absolutely nothing of it
Then I remember watching the news and they did a piece on recchi/lindros being the young flyers for the future. Don't think I thought much of that either
At some point. I just started watching the games that were on channel 17. They would be on once a week. If I didn't have cable I don't know if I'd be as big a fan as I am now. Bc as a 12 yoa kid channel I watched it out of sheet boredom, channel 17 actually came in pretty clear rather than fox which never came in clear. So I had the choice to watch 4 channels
It was hard as all hell to watch not knowing and having no one there to explain the rules. The legion of doom was such a force.
I blame 2 people for my flyers obsession
1. Lindros- he was so good it was almost like an arcade game when he was on the ice. Made it very easy to like and watch hockey
2. Gary doernhoffer- for breaking down film in slow motion between periods. Helped me understand how the game is played. |

My favorite was when Marc Bureau knocked Petr Sobvoda (frank)ing out. Both Dorny and JJ were absolutely livid. |

Did he get his ass kicked other than when MacTavish jumped him, which made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, by the way....
Also, trickling? That wasn't a trickle |

That was one of the most brutal cheap shots I can recall seeing as it happened.
Bureau remained one of those guys that the Flyers added that I could never warm up to, like Randy Holt, Ulf Samuelsson, Billy Tibbetts and Doug Crossman |

There's a Czech report that Jagr hasn't signed with the Devils yet because he's hoping that the Flyers will get into the bidding.
http://isport.blesk.cz/cl...ci-komplikuji-flyers.html
Basically, running it through google translate, Jagr's preference is to play in Philly and he might be waiting to see if they can make room and offer him an acceptable deal, despite ongoing talks with NJ |

I would rather take Jagr than Gagne, actually....and here's why:
Jagr's influence. Say it all you want, he's too old, he's too slow, whatever--the guy had an impact on that locker room two years ago that was sorely missing Pronger's leadership. I mean you got a guy like Hartnell who was a (frank)ing all-star two years ago because of Jagr.
If Jagr was considerate enough to take a substantial pay cut, I'd say the Flyers should pull the trigger. |

At this point, if there is any kind of validity to the story, why in the world would you sign him if you are the Devils? His heart is in a city 90 miles south that you play 6 times a year.
I would walk away and target someone like Brunner if I was them. |

Possibly because they need some kind of drawing card for the fans. Kovalchuk is gone. They have a hard enough time drawing fans. I hope they sign him. I don't want the Flyers to sign him.
