I love Jagr, but I just didn't see the fit here. I get why some want him back over Gagne, but I think there's no question as to which fits better if you were to sign them and that's Gagne. Jagr would want to be on Claude's wing and the only current opening I see us having is a 3rd line winger which usually goes to a solid 2 way guy, like Gagne. Now I'm not advocating signing Gagne because of contract slots and salary cap, but given Jagr or Gagne to fit on this current squad, I would go Gagne. - five4fighting10
I just don't see Jagr getting through a whole 82 game season. I still think he can play with G and Hartnell, but only on a temporary basis. The team can't have guys rotating constantly on G's right side. |

late to this party, but anyway...
1st gm I saw was 1970 ('69-70 season) a 2-2 tie @ the MTL forum. I believe stu Nahan was p-b-p man and gene did color. bill lesuk tied the gm in the 3rd and Bernie was in goal...I think. I know rogue vachon was in net for MTL.
The 80s teams were my fave. loved Tim Kerr and I think he'd be considered the best flyer ever if it weren't for the injuries....although you could say the same thing about E, of course. - isaiah520
Stu Nahan? Was Bill Baldwin and Apollo Creed rinkside as well? |

The Flyers are currently 2.5M over the Upper Limit. Placing Pronger on LTIR on day 1, would give the Flyers 4.921M of LTIR Cap space. Trading Meszaros would add another 4. So Jagr and Gagne would have to come cheap. About 3M for each. - MJL
3 isn't cheap for Gagne. If we theoretically had this 9M in cap space, I imagine we'd try to get Gagne for 2.5, and give Jagr whatever he wanted. It'd still give us plenty of room for callups. If we got Gags for 2.5, and Jags for 4.5 (1 year), I'd be happy. |

Placing Pronger on LTIR then trading Mez would give the team about 6.4M in cap space. Your two proposals would cost 7M. They also need space to call guys up in case of injuries. They may also want to have room to add players at the TD. |

6M total for Gagne and Jagr is cheap. Placing Pronger on LTIR and trading Meszaros would not give you enough to pay Gagne 2.5M and Jagr 4.5M. |

What pushed you to give up your season tickets? - flyer_nutter
The price, my crappy seats and the fact that my son plays for a travel team and his scholastic team.
Another thing was the Phillies. People were spending all their money on the Phillies and the secondary market dried up. I was giving tickets away for a case of beer if I could even give them away. |

No need for Jagr. No way he will last a full season, + playoffs.
Once some cap space is opened up Gagne will be brought in, and that will be the team. |

You're right, I must be tired, I read that as "after LTIR we have 4.9 mil of cap space + 4 mil from trading Mez"
Ya that's my bad. Maybe 2.5 for Gagne and 3-3.5 for Jagr. |

Very solid, if not spectacular job done by Holmgren and Company this summer. Certainly the results were much better than last year.
Although the East is tougher with Detroit and emerging C-Bus in, and Winnipeg out, the Flyers with some breaks (staying relatively healthy) are certainly a playoff team. And as we know, once you get in the Tournament, anything can happen. |

Signing Jagr and Gagne will force Read, Gagne or Simmonds to the 4th line. It would also force the Flyers to send down Laughton no matter how well he performed in training camp and Pre-season.
Jagr is as good as gone. he will get top 6 minutes with NJ and probably top unit PP time. There is no guarantee of either of those things with the Flyers. Plus he can't be moved around like Gagne. Gagne can play PP, PK or on line 1-3. |

First, not true. Second, not close.
First, Pens, Caps, Rangers, Flyers, Stars, Bruins. 20%
Second, Sillinger, another former Flyer, played for 12. Dozens have played for 8 or more, a number of them former Flyers.

Jagr has had such an amazing career. If he played those three season in the NHL instead of the KHL he would be closing in on 2nd or 3rd for all time scoring and 3rd or 4th for all time goals. Most of this during the clutch and grab era. He's also lost time due to multiple lockouts. |

coming in late, but for some reason i can't post on this site with my phone...weird.
my dad liked the flyers of the 80's, so i grew up in my single digit years hearing the names Howe, Tocchet, Hextall, ect. wasn't old enough really to get into sports that much so after my mom remarried (and i became a Raiders fan via my stepdad...sad days, these days) it was a while before i really got into hockey. i REALLY started again in late high school, i remember that cup team in 1997 my sophmore year, then the 1999-2000 team my senior year. i totally thought they had the Devils that year, especially when Lindros came back. him getting knocked out was definitely a lowlight of my Flyers watching career.
my favorite team, like many, was the 2004 squad. so many "what ifs", but that team mirrors the 1993 Phillies in that they were such a special TEAM/Group of dudes. neither of those teams won it all...but i would be surprised if that they both didn't fall into the top 5 teams of every 4 sport loving fan in the area. good times.
thanks for the blog as always, Bill. GO FLYERS |

That's a good comparison, the 93 Phils and the 04 Flyers. Neither one really had an elite superstar player. They were hardworking, scratch and claw types of teams. Granted, the 93 Phillies were probably all on steroids except for Morandini, but they're revered every bit as much as the 08 team. |

Jagr was held goal less in 22 playoff games last year. And that's coming of a shortened 48 game schedule. Not sure how much gas is left in the tank.
I think the Flyers are wise to stay away from him.
I believe the Flyers have a gentleman's agreement with Gagne. The fact there haven't been any rumors linking him to other teams is a good sign. I think as soon as the Flyers create some cap space, Gagne will be added. - PLindbergh31

Born in '88, been a fan since about age 6 or 7. Grew up in Buffalo, but my dad grew up in Scranton and was a fan during the Bullies era. For whatever reason, being a Sabres' fan was never an option and I recieved a Lindros jersey for 8th birthday present. I became die-hard after the 07 rebuild, having center ice/gamecenter every year since |

i've told this before i'm sure but since the stories are still going i'll add mine
i hated sports and surprised myself by marrying a guy who liked one sport: hockey
i quickly realized it was definitely the coolest sport so i didn't give him a hard time about it, in fact we went to the hockey hall of fame on our honeymoon
i sat down in the movie room there just to take a load off while he perused the hall, and they were showing the flyers vs red army game. i left there pretty impressed.
started actually watching with him during the 2004 playoffs. i was shocked and disappointed about the lockout the next year. zus and kappy were my first two favorites.
in my short time as a fan i've been through TWO lockouts |

Primeau was unreal for playoffs in 04. Hated giving up #17 for him, but in the playoffs for that run, he was magic. Have a game puck from Game 6 vs. TB. Amazing game! |
