Fair and balanced is fine but revisionist history is another. The phrase 'bryz is the least of their problems' has been a staple on hear for two years and if you don't think so you're a liar. Bill did make a lot of excuses for him as did the majority of the fan base. The defense was blamed and shouldn't have been as Mason's number bear out. - lar6767
Hey lar, I think bill said bryz was not the main problem but he was not the solution either, he said that many times. He accurately said how bryz started the season as one of their better better players and kept them in a lot of games they should have been blown out, and later said how he was not making the timely saves and was not good on breakaways and shoot outs.
I think bill calls it like it is sir. Just my opinion. |

Talk about revisionist. Laviolette didn't change his team's defensive strategy until just before Mason's arrival. Yes, Mason still outplayed Bryz, but let's not act like the TEAM defense was anything but a porous mess prior to Lavi's making adjustments. There are too many variables to place blame at just one set of feet, but hey you're not really interested in anything but trying to rub Bill's nose in it, are ya? |

He wasn't the least of their problems, but he wasn't their biggest problem. His goaltending was adequate considering the play of the team in front of him. He never went above and beyond to steal games, but he never was terrible enough to be the primary reason they lost.
I felt they shouldn't get rid of him unless they had a contingency plan and wanted to use his money to make an upgrade in other areas.
Once the offseason stuff happened and it became clear that the players did not like him or want him back, most of us jumped on the buyout bandwagon. |

No one is the least bit nervous about the goaltending?
Both guys come with pretty big question marks. - Marc D
Yes, I'm nervous.
I have very low expectations for Mason as he's been supremely sub-mediocre beginning with his second season. I don't have high hopes that he can suddenly turn it around and become a viable #1.
With Emery, my only concern is his hips holding up. He seems to be fine but I think he'll get a lot more work, and his minutes will be tougher, than in his last couple seasons. I hope the workload doesn't wear him out. I have no doubts about his skills, though. |

This is very simple. The archives are easily found. What Bill wrote is on record. Feel free to go back, and bring some evidence to back up your claims. Because all of us who are regulars on this site, are aware of what Bill wrote in regards to Bryzgalov, and his play here. And his comments were, as usual, accurate and on point. Mason played 7 games in a Flyers uniform! LOL You can find similar small stretches of games for Bryzgalov where his numbers were very good. |

What's your point? Bryz is gone. At this point does it matter if he was horrible, great, or somewhere in between while he was a Flyer? Even if you were accurate in your characterization of Bill's coverage of Bryz (which you're not), I fail to see what difference it makes now. Bryz has left the building. Time to move on.
Also, are you really making your entire case on a 7 game sample from Mason? While conveniently ignoring the three month span where Bryz set the Flyers shut out record and was one of the best goalies in the league? The point here is that a small sample size is not really solid proof of anything. Mason's numbers don't prove Bryz was the entire problem any more than Bryz's hot streak proves he wasn't part of the problem at all.
I'm definitely glad he's gone, and won't miss him. But your logic is flawed to say the least, and your characterization of Bill's coverage of Bryz is just plain wrong. |

I quote March, 2012. Bryz was player of the month.
Bryzgalov in March 2012: 10-2-1, 1.43 GAA, .947 save percentage, four shutouts. |

March 2012 Bryz was the best goalie in the world, for a month. Also the first 10 games or so of last season he was outstanding.
Just two examples off the top of my head where Bryz as a Flyer looked like a franchise #1 nearly elite goalie. |

Last year their defense was worse than Bryz. Imho.
Last year their overall team defense was worse than Bryz. Imho.
Last year their 5-on-5 play was worse than Bryz. Imho.
Last year their second unit PP was worse than Bryz. Imho. |
