They already do have a bunch of those.
- jak521

Right, but they release like 2 per year... You know how many times I've seen the "week" of Mike Richards..... Damn that was 2 seasons ago.... They need them to come out like regular shows.... A new episode same day each week for 15 weeks...

The NHL network has been running a lot of older playoff games.
- MJL

it has been a little depressing

I am really missing hockey. As I watched the Phillies impotent offense try and trick the fans into thinking they were contenders, I began flipping around only to find every channel filled with reality shows. I have 300 channels and all of them are bad movies or reality shows. There were a lot less channels when I was a kid, yet, there was always something on TV to watch.

Now, all I can stand to watch is football and hockey.

- PhillySportsGuy

Amen brother!!
TV today just sucks, especially these horrible reality shows. I blame the producers who are too cheap to pay for writers and actors so instead we get garbage like Survivor, American Idol and the f'n Kardashian family. Thanks god for hockey and movies thru on demand, or there would be nothing worth watching.

20 years ago, there were probably over 20 shows I enjoyed watching, today its 5 or 6 at most, sad.

What the alternative to being "fine"... Somebody walks? That's not going to happen. If two guys are friends the friendship may help build chemistry - however, it could be like Richards and Carter going out for drinks before a game. On the other hand... Giroux and Crosby may try to out do each other and excel. But, I would not put them on the same line - instead of passing for a goal, somebody might shoot first to be the hero.

I actually watched that new Bear Grills show, Get Out Alive. It was entertaining, but mostly because I was waiting for someone to shatter a knee cap.

It's going to be a collection of players from a lot of different teams, with little practice time. Style of play, and systems are likely going to be pretty basic. I think far more of the Coaching is going to be about lineups, and who to play where. To try and get some chemistry together as quick as possible.
- MJL

This is why I like Team Sweden's chances... Strong line, yet less talent then Team Canada. Chemistry should be there, since Sweden's (potentially) got the Van/Sedin's on line one, Det/Franzen-Zetterburg on line two, and StL/Berglund-Steen for line three.

I like Survivor, and I like the cooking competition shows, mainly because I love food. lol. But 20 years ago was the age of sitcoms... Sitcoms are slightly better then reality shows... I mean really, there wasn't anything much better back then then there is today. There is just a lot more options with more junk out there that makes it look worse...

Some of the biggest TV hits of all time came within the last 5 years... 24, lost, prision break, House, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, walking dead, ...

And if you subcsribe to showtime and HBO there are really good shows on there... Dexter, Nurse Jackie, Shameless, Ray Donovan, Homeland, Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones....

Then there are some decent sitcoms... Modern Family, Whitney, Raising Hope, New Girl, 2 broke girls....

I think your just jaded....

Weren't most of the shows you mentioned (24, Lost, Prison Break, House) from the early or mid 2000s, like 2005 or earlier? Not trying to pick a fight, just seems like they were from longer ago than 5 years?

Hate that freaking guy. Ruins so much during games.

Still though.. better then the options from the late 80-early 90s of Unsloved Mysteries, Dallas, Quantum Leap (loved it), and Star Trek TNG (also loved it.)

Out of all the sitcoms on back then like Home Improvement, Cosby show, Seinfield, and Married with Children... the only ones I would watch would be the latter 2.

As a matter of fact, I also forgot about the animated television... 20 years ago you had... The Simpsons... Now you have The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, Family Guy part 2, and Family Guy part 3, Bob's burgers, and Futurerama....

I never watched TNG when it was on, but love it now. Same with Quantum Leap. The 90s had some good dramas. Law & Order, NYPD Blue, the 50-or-so Law & Order spinoffs.

I also liked shows like Home Improvement, Family Matters, Married With Children, Full House, Boy Meets World, Saved by the Bell, and even Step By Step.

As for cartoons, the original Nick Toons (Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy) were great, and Beavis & Butthead were huge. Every teen boy in the world liked Aeon Flux.

I actually think the 90s were the pinnacle of TV, but that may just be me being sentimental about the time I grew up. Maybe I'll go back and watch some old episodes of Clarissa Explains it All, Family Double Dare, and Salute Your Shorts and see how they are.

It was a good, entertaining game. I was about as emotionally invested in it as a Thursday night game between San Jose and Colorado in February.

If the NHL wasn't participating, it'd be players like Bud Holloway, Ryan Lasch, Petr Nedve, Petri Kontiola and Joakim Lindström competing for their countries against a KHL All-Star team.
- bmeltzer

If the NHL wasn't participating, I could watch Claude Giroux play for the Flyers instead of for Canada.

I get that NHL participation makes the Olympics a higher quality game. I just don't get emotionally invested or enjoy the games as much as I do NHL games.

For instance, in 2010, I was rooting for Canada, because they had the most Flyers on their roster.

If the NHL wasn't participating, several players would opt to play for their homeland's teams over the NHL. A guy like Forsberg, who was revered as a God in Sweden, may have bolted to SEL.

See I hate those Law and Lawyer shows. And a lot of what your talking about is being seen through the eyes of a kid/ young adult.... Dont you think most of those shows seemed stupid to adults watching? Family Matters, Boy Meets world.... Nothing for adults in those, especially the Nick shows... I did forget about Bevis and Butthead and Daria... but then those shows only appealed to people 13-25... My Dad (57) loves Family guy.

I doubt that, because most European teams can't pay as much as the NHL. Why did guys come from Sweden, Finland, etc before the NHL allowed Olympic participation...including Forsberg?

Not trying to sound like a loser but there really is no educational television left. That's the stuff I truly miss.
- PhillySportsGuy

PBS still has Ken Burns and Nova and other historical/science docs, a whole slew of good cooking shows where they *gasp* actually teach you how to cook, respected news broadcasters that avoid editorializing, a lot of British dramas (Downton Abbey), good local programming, and all the old stuff for kids that we know and love.

Best of all, it's available with any cable package, and also free over the air.

I agree with you about the rest of TV these days, though... outside of an hour or two on AMC, HBO/Showtime, and sports, TV has become increasingly unwatchable, and we're all probably locked into a package where we don't care about 99% of the content.

No wonder people are cutting the cord in increasing numbers. If sports streaming continues to grow and proliferate, there really won't be any reason why any of us should still be subscribing to cable/satellite in the future. Just get it a la carte online for a fraction of the cost -- only pay for what we really want to watch.

Agreed. I have pretty much every channel, but I watch mostly sports and movies.

I don't watch a single network TV show on a regular basis. I've tried to watch a couple, but I find them boring and uninspired, especially seeing what HBO and Showtime can do with a series.

I just got rid of cable. AmazonPrime and Netflix works better for me. 130$ for internet/cable was getting crazy... Now just 30$ for internet only.
