Agreed. I have pretty much every channel, but I watch mostly sports and movies.

I don't watch a single network TV show on a regular basis. I've tried to watch a couple, but I find them boring and uninspired, especially seeing what HBO and Showtime can do with a series.

You know... My grandfather only watched sports and black and white movies, and raves about these old time british sitcoms.... Maybe your just turning into an Old fart that likes to live in the past...

Showtime, AMC, and HBO have some excellent series.

PBS still has Ken Burns and Nova and other historical/science docs, a whole slew of good cooking shows where they *gasp* actually teach you how to cook, respected news broadcasters that avoid editorializing, a lot of British dramas (Downton Abbey), good local programming, and all the old stuff for kids that we know and love.

Best of all, it's available with any cable package, and also free over the air.

I agree with you about the rest of TV these days, though... outside of an hour or two on AMC, HBO/Showtime, and sports, TV has become increasingly unwatchable, and we're all probably locked into a package where we don't care about 99% of the content.

No wonder people are cutting the cord in increasing numbers. If sports streaming continues to grow and proliferate, there really won't be any reason why any of us should still be subscribing to cable/satellite in the future. Just get it a la carte online for a fraction of the cost -- only pay for what we really want to watch.

That's the talk. They say people get the DVR just to skip commercials. When I used the DVR I use to pause the first 15 minutes of shows just so I could skip commercials.

I'd pause half the first period before I started watching Flyer games, just so I could skip intermission.

I doubt that, because most European teams can't pay as much as the NHL. Why did guys come from Sweden, Finland, etc before the NHL allowed Olympic participation...including Forsberg?
- Jsaquella

What about to the KHL. KHL can pay just as much as (and in some cases more than) the NHL.

I do the same. If cable did start this, I would drop it. I already have Netflix and Hulu. Hulu has ads, the way they were meant to be.... 5-6 times an hour show, there is a 30 second add.

I think if cable does this, then Hulu will increase the price of thier ads, and get current shows to stream.... Good-bye cable...

Network TV is generally used to mean NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox.

I mentioned Showtime and HBO as doing good jobs with series TV. That whole "...seeing what HBO and Showtime can do with a series" part of my post.

I like Survivor, and I like the cooking competition shows, mainly because I love food. lol. But 20 years ago was the age of sitcoms... Sitcoms are slightly better then reality shows... I mean really, there wasn't anything much better back then then there is today. There is just a lot more options with more junk out there that makes it look worse...

Some of the biggest TV hits of all time came within the last 5 years... 24, lost, prision break, House, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, walking dead, ...

And if you subcsribe to showtime and HBO there are really good shows on there... Dexter, Nurse Jackie, Shameless, Ray Donovan, Homeland, Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones....

Then there are some decent sitcoms... Modern Family, Whitney, Raising Hope, New Girl, 2 broke girls....

I think your just jaded....

Sorry, I was only talking about network and basic cable shows. I agree with you on HBO and Showtime. Pretty much all the shows I still watch are on those networks.

So far, we've seen 2 "name" NHLers jump to the KHL, and neither had anything to do with Olympic participation or the possibility that the NHL would skip out of Sochi

Is Timonen playing in the Olympics?
I hope he doesn't. 38 years old, small guy who has battled injuries the last few years... expecting him to play 90+ games is a lot to ask.

I wish HBO would put past seasons and series on-demand like showtime does. I didn't have HBO when Sopranos came out, and I didnt want to watch the edited tnt verision... And I dont want to pay for the DVDs.

Showtime is my fave right now: Dexter, Weeds, Ray Donovan, Californication all kick butt!
Though on HBO, Game of Thrones is awesome (I loved the books even more though!)

Its weird how little Americans care about Olympic Hockey when compared to other countries, considering they usually ice a pretty damn good team.

The prestige of the NHL and Stanley Cup are still strong -- it's definitely not just about $ for most pros.

The NHL only really has to start worrying if the KHL keeps expanding westward, and a generation down the line, young hockey players in Czech and Switzerland etc. start dreaming of winning a Gagarin Cup, instead of a Stanley and start staying home.

The writers for the Sopranos are amazing. The cast they assembled played the roles to a T.

It's my favorite show of all time, watching it now after Gandolfini has passed away, doesn't feel the same.

Christopher had a line in his intervention episode where he told Tony with the way you eat you will die of a heart attack by the time you are 50.

It was a good, entertaining game. I was about as emotionally invested in it as a Thursday night game between San Jose and Colorado in February.
- Jsaquella

i have to agree, basically.
but id compare it to a sharks/avs playoff game.

the people i was watching it with were very into it which helped, but as much as I try i just cant legit feel the THIS IS MY COUNRTY!!!! hype

edit: it was a really fun game to watch though

Weeds was one HELL of a series and thankfully introduced me to showtime. I watched seasons 1-7 on netflix and was too impatient to wait for season 8 to start so I ordered showtime to watch the season, then I was going to cancel... but before I did I started watching Dexter, then Calinfornication, then Homeland, then Shameless, then the Borgias, then Nurse Jackie, and now Ray Donovan.... I can only Imagine what TV life would be like if I never watched Weeds.

And Thanks to Flyers-Boston WC, I got into Boardwalk Empire... Really awesome show....

Im not saying now.. I mean if the NHL flat out said that players would not be permitted to play in the Olympics anymore, it may sway players who have always dreamed of representing their country. KHL is an option, and an expanding one at that.
