See I hate those Law and Lawyer shows. And a lot of what your talking about is being seen through the eyes of a kid/ young adult.... Dont you think most of those shows seemed stupid to adults watching? Family Matters, Boy Meets world.... Nothing for adults in those, especially the Nick shows... I did forget about Bevis and Butthead and Daria... but then those shows only appealed to people 13-25... My Dad (57) loves Family guy. - youarewrong
I still watch Saved by the Bell if I catch it on Sunday mornings. Boy Meets World still does it for me. The rest I haven't seen in a while.
My parents thought Ren & Stimpy and Beavis & Butthead were hilarious as well. I treat them and the Simpsons are heavily influential shows. The Simpsons let you say "suck" on TV. Ren & Stimpy leg you use gratuitous use of fart/snot/pee jokes. Beavis & Butthead allowed pyro maniacs and idiots to be idolized. They paved the way for Family Guy and South Park. In fact, Beavis & Butthead were recently brought back. |

The prestige of the NHL and Stanley Cup are still strong -- it's definitely not just about $ for most pros.
The NHL only really has to start worrying if the KHL keeps expanding westward, and a generation down the line, young hockey players in Czech and Switzerland etc. start dreaming of winning a Gagarin Cup, instead of a Stanley and start staying home. - Tomahawk
That's part of it, but I also think that the money will keep the NHL as the world's premier league. The KHL can afford to pay the Kovalchuks tons of cash, but is their average player salary as high as in the NHL?
Guys want to play at the highest level, in the best league in the world. As long as the average NHL salary is larger than the average salary in the KHL or Elite leagues, we'll see many good players continue to come over. |

PBS still has Ken Burns and Nova and other historical/science docs, a whole slew of good cooking shows where they *gasp* actually teach you how to cook, respected news broadcasters that avoid editorializing, a lot of British dramas (Downton Abbey), good local programming, and all the old stuff for kids that we know and love.
Best of all, it's available with any cable package, and also free over the air.
I agree with you about the rest of TV these days, though... outside of an hour or two on AMC, HBO/Showtime, and sports, TV has become increasingly unwatchable, and we're all probably locked into a package where we don't care about 99% of the content.
No wonder people are cutting the cord in increasing numbers. If sports streaming continues to grow and proliferate, there really won't be any reason why any of us should still be subscribing to cable/satellite in the future. Just get it a la carte online for a fraction of the cost -- only pay for what we really want to watch. - Tomahawk
The only reason I pay for cable TV anymore is Flyers broadcasts. If I could get that from NHL Gamecenter (i.e. no local blackouts), I'd have cut the cable already. |

Im not saying now.. I mean if the NHL flat out said that players would not be permitted to play in the Olympics anymore, it may sway players who have always dreamed of representing their country. KHL is an option, and an expanding one at that. - jak521
It may discourage some players, but as long as the NHL pays better and remains the best league in the world, good players will still come over and play here. Th Olympics are a nice carrot....but it's once every 4 years and guys came over long before the NHL allowed participation in the games. |

You know what's eerie, is that G's shift and Richie's shift are the two iconic moments of recent playoff past, and G was on the ice for both:

G-d-it. I miss Richards.
Nothing against Simmonds and Schenn--but Richards has that "it" factor. |

You could probably pay for a proxy (to change your IP location), get gamecenter, and still come in at a fraction of what you're paying cable. |

Toss up for me between Recchi 2.0 (2000-2004) and Richards (2005-10).
But Recchi was my first favorite player growing up. And if I'm going by decades, I'll give him the 90s and Richards the 00s. |

I've thought about it, but do they check these things ever? I'd hate to put down the cash, and partway into the season have them crack down on it.
@JFlyers00 I've got it bookmarked, never taken the plunge. How's the video quality? It'd be a bonus if they had a good Android app, to. |

You're technically not supposed to bypass blackouts, but I really doubt the NHL is that vigilant about it... the blackouts are in place more as a means to protect the interests of the broadcasters, not the league.
One of the biggest draws of the service is that it's not tied to your physical home location, so it wouldn't be strange at all to see somebody access their account from a location outside of your normal blackout area or from a variety of locations. |
