I never said they should give up on him. I just asked about him being traded because of all the situations I mentioned in first post ie past with randy In anahiem - jiri_crha
Gardiner has a past with Randy? |

His past with Randy in Anaheim (or lack thereof) shouldn't and doesn't matter. Lupul had a less than stellar past with Carlyle and that didn't mean anything either. Contrary to popular belief, Randy Carlyle doesn't seem like the petty type. He's not going to dismiss a guy just because he has some warts in his game. If he sees something he can work with, he's going to work with him. |

gauthier best be hitting some power skating.....what an ugly skater. - Barx
Underhill will probably work with him.
If you're looking for pure offensive centreman in the Leafs system, it would be Verhaeghe and Toninato, imo. Still not in that very good class yet of prospects. |

I think Gardiner is second this upcoming season in TOI to Phaneuf. He'll play a ton. |

I'd like to see them pick...you know, some skilled centres someday. Maybe next draft right?
Guys like Jared McCann, Ho-Sang (we'd have a local Muslim and Asian true GTA team!) and Adrian Kempe should be around where the Leafs pick. (Throw in a Reinhart joke somewhere). - AdamFrench
Would be nice just once to have some kid come out of nowhere at the centre ice position for the Leafs, just once damn it!! |

Who cares? You don't dump young talent for that reason. And we barely heard anything about Gardiner anyways. - RogerRoeper
ok let me clarify this a bit. I like Gardiners ability. Yes he needs more time to develop. Should have stayed on marlies last year.
Randy coached Anahiem. Anahiem dumped Gardiner.Randy most likely had some input in that decision . |

You're putting WAY too much into that. They had Shultz in their system at the time. |

I was saying to Bhud that Verhaeghe will end up being the better centre than Gauthier.
Still not adequate at the centre position, taking a long time to build it up. - LeafMan
Agree, Verhaeghe seems like a good sleeper pick. I'm really hoping for a guy season from him. |

Incorrect.
Gardiner never signed with Anaheim.
Carlyle never coached him... Ever.. Or had the chance to since he was in college.
Lupul was a salary dump. Period. So they had to pay to move him with a high end prospect.

Carlyle never coached gardiner for a second, not one. He was in college at the time. He'd never been to a training camp, so what you're saying is pointless. There is no connection. |

At the most important time of the year Carlyle gave Gardiner a ton of minutes. Enough said. |

Yup. Lupul's value was night and day what it was @ the time. Gardiner was a nice addition for the salary coming back. |

He wasn't in their system.. He was in college.
Murray needed to move lupul.. He earned too much with uncertain health.
So how do you move unwanted salary? By coupling it with a prospect that comes from an area of depth in your organization.
So they included an unsigned gardiner (who Carlyle never coached for a minute) to move lupul.
Plain and simple. Carlyle had nothing to do with it |
