It will be Leafs only this time not Marlies regarding Ranger, Franson as I said all along is going to be traded, I have a gut feeling about it. - LeafMan
Looking like it. |

Yeah, I've looked all over and have found nothing conclusive. My buddy said he heard it from guys affiliated with Tampa in the ECHL who knew Ranger while he was in Tampa and their system. My friend plays for the Florida Everblades and shall remain nameless for incriminating purposes lol, but I trust his word as being the closest to the truth based on his sources. Either way, wish Paul the best and think he'll do just fine in TO. - Flyers_V88
 ....biggest goon league Ive seen.
With the Everblades hosting the Greenville Grrrowl, for the first game of the American Conference Semifinals, the two teams engaged in a third-period line brawl that would see both teams combine for 197 minutes in penalties.

For the record...
I believe a team never has too many defensemen.
Signing a depth guy like Ranger doesn't mean there WILL be a trade. - Pecafan Fan
Financially it means there will HAVE to be a trade. |

This HAS to be a sign of a trade from one of our D. Keep Rielly, Fraser, Gardiner, and Gunnarson . I see the rest as expendable and NO I am including Reilly. He just hasnt made it yet - IrishRage

Congratulations Dave Nonis...you're officially making our suspect defense even worse. This guy is NOT an NHL calibre defenseman. And his signing seems like it will have to come at the expense of someone who actually is. - djamon
Meh, if his contract is for 1 million or less than they can bury it with little to no Cap consequence. |

It could very well be Phaneuf on the way out, not necessarily Franson |

I think it's doubtful he can be sent down without clearing waivers (which he won't). Which means why would they bother signing him if they don't care if he actually plays for us? |

Haha, I wouldn't disagree. The talent level is still quite decent, but it's a lot of guys who are just looking to stir poop up and make a name for themselves that way. Ironically, he was a scorer when he played in the OHL and QMJHL, but was forced to turn his game into that chippy and tough forward. Hope he makes it somewhere so I can join the ride lol! |

No, it doesn't.
RFA -- bridge deals...and one smith is gone after camp..550k more. A trade could happen, but all could feasibly fit too. I still think Liles is good as gone though. |

i think this is awfully optimistic... not sure Kadri and Franson settle for those deals, especially Franson for 1 year... - Gary_B.
It might be ....but the Leafs Cap structure will force Kadri and Franson to either accept shorter deals than they want or sit out - end of story.
On a short term deal that's the range for Kadri (Couture, Subban, DelZotto, etc...).
Franson will be tough. He may sit out or force a trade - and as Leafman pointed out the Leafs may be game to trade him while his value is high anyway. |

Doesn't matter, just means he gets paid the same in the NHL or AHL with a one way. |

Of course. But what I do know is this guy is not an upgrade on what we already have. So it makes me wonder why bother. |

not a chance. Leafs would be in big trouble without Phaneuf. he's still their best dman, overrated or not. |

Liles isn't bad either, just not a Carlyle d-man, since we're intent on building around the coach |

if it's a one-way deal it's definitely a precursor to something else. what's the Leafs available capspace now? |
