Well it's gotta be less than they give Fraser. That would be hard to justify. - The Law

To be honest, I'm pretty sure that even if Ranger didn't play in the NHL for a long time, he's twice the player that Fraser is. |

so let's say 1 million.
Then Kadri at 3, franson at 2.5 - Pecafan Fan
Yup ...altho I have Kadri and Franson flipped. I don't see how Kadri gets more on a short deal than Subban. Franson will be a tough sign. |

Id like them to bring Fraser back too though...so what then? Brennan over Fraser? |

Which is why I wonder why they would bother. Nonis has other things on his plate right now, he shouldn't be bothering trying to resuscitate Ranger's career. - djamon
this is silly.
just cause he has 'things on his plate', he shouldn't worry about securing depth on defense? |

Fingers crossed. At worst it's competition in camp and the loser gets to make his 900k in the AHL. |

He didn't specifically say any player was available by name. He just said he'd listen to offers for anyone, and Phaneufs name had been brought up on occasion. Not to say that it was anything concrete - jerseyleaf

I never said anything about wanting it to happen, just that it could.
The reason I brought it up is because Nonis specifically said that Phaneuf is available for trade.
Phaneufs salary is quite unmanageable and unlikely to come down. - twiztedmike
He did NOT say that. He said anyone is available if it improves the team. |

Maybe you have no clue about what Nonis has on his plate.
Teams today need cheap serviceable NHL players, it might be a risk, but a small one to add a former NHL player who seemed fine in the AHL. I am sure they were able to gauge where he was at. If they cant sign Franson or Fraser for what they want, they need to fill the roster spots. |

Or maybe they simply chose Ranger over Fraser. |

Maybe...but Fraser played with some serious heart. Its been awhile since Ive watched Ranger, but does he play with a physical edge as well? |

Fraser still has arbitration and the Leafs can't walk away from it with what he will get. |

Paul Ranger is not NHL depth...he's a Marlie. Money is very tight at the moment, and we have valuable players who need contracts. The idea that we "outbid" other teams for a guy who does not makes us better is a waste of time and assets, IMO. |

Don't overthink it Colin. The Leafs can bury the first 900k in the minors without any Cap concern. In theory they could sign 9 guys at 900k to battle for spots 5-7 on the D. The 6 losers get sent thru waivers and at worst end up suiting up for the Marlies. No Cap consequences at all. |

So you have Brennan 40 NHL games, Holzer 24 and Ranger 270
Who the F knows which will be the better option for a 6/7th dman.
its a low risk/decent reward scenario |
