Great line.

My favorite Seinfeld quote of all time, even though it's a running quote through the whole episode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhe3RlzgTiQ

edit: That and when he tries to always go out on top.

Effective Strategies for WIN:

1) Open your reply by repeating/reusing OP's words in a way that makes absolutely no sense,

2) Cling to the same tired premise, even if it's already been debunked with facts/numbers/logic etc,

3) Liberally sprinkle in absolute statements, jargon and/or vague talk of "understanding the game", so nobody can claim that you aren't the hockey savant that you so obviously are,

4) Repeat ad infinitum, if necessary. Being able to outlast somebody in any argument is almost as effective as being able to prove that you actually know what you're talking about,

5) After you're done, remember to go back and un-spellcheck your post, throw in some random punctuation, too,

6) Congrats, you're a winner!

Here's the Cliffnotes version

Glad to see Kenny Linseman ranked so high. He was a very good playmaker, and actually led the Flyers in scoring the season prior to being traded in the Howe deal.

The first of many "Next Bobby Clarkes" he was probably the closest to the original in terms of style of play and nasty level.

Cause I have time to kill at work. Top 10 Flyers snipers:
1. Tim Kerr-4 consecutive 50 goal seasons and the quickest release on a wrist shot in Flyers history
2. Reggie Leach-the rifle, 19 goals in 16 games in the 76 playoffs, unreal!
3. John Leclair-hit 50 3 times in a row, shot was unbelievably heavy
4. Rick Macleish-best pure wrist shot in Flyers history, deadly on breakaways
5. Eric Lindros-was killer with every type of shot
6. Mark Recchi-had an uncanny ability to hit that one open spot.
7. Bill Barber-shot hard and accurate, a lethal combo
8. Brian Propp-wicked snap shot, loved to hit the top corner
9. Danny Briere-the ultimate big goal scorer, excellent release and timing
10. Jeremy Roenick-good all around scorer, also knew how to score the big ones

Comments?

Mark Pederson. He really sucked.

I'd have Gagne ahead of Briere and Roenick

Goalies can be unpredictable in alot of ways.. Certainly you have certain ones who will more than likely be solid, but there are always disappointments and surprises. I have faith in our tandem.

:takes off orange glasses:

Please let our goalies at least give us a chance to win games... please

I am cautiously optimistic about the Flyers goalies. Mason displayed a lot of natural ability and seems to realize that he's got to work his ass off to turn that talent into being a good goalie, and Emery is definitely a very capable guy who can at least split time and be effective.

Too many people spending time making lists without doing research and solid analysis behind it, like Bill does.

Not really depressing; the list means nothing once the season starts. Mason doesn't deserve to be ranked higher, but there are reasons to believe that he or Razor can be successful. Mike Smith is ranked 6th on there (not that I agree with that) - where would he have been ranked 2 years ago. Some of the higher ranked goalies are declining due to age (Backstrom, Hiller), ranked highly based on small samples (Bob), or just inconsistent (MAF). I am happy enough with the goaltending for now.

In my opinion passers are likely to become great players over goal scorers. Great Playmakers are likely to hang on to the puck as long as they choose, whether it be for half a second with a touch pass or dancing around a number of opposing players. This isn't to say snipers can't be great players. Many of them half to read the play, while playing without the puck and be in the right place at the right time while being covered. Playmakers are just a different animal to me. They can make something happen just by standing still at times. Playmakers see the ice and read the play all the time.

Giroux will easily become the Flyers best set up man of all time if he stays healthy and stays consistent. I'm a little surprised that Rod Brind'amour didn't make the list if I really read Bill's blog correctly. A little surprised Danny Briere was never named. Peter Forsberg, 85 assists in 100 Games. I never knew that. That's pretty amazing. Adam Oates to my knowledge managed to get two assists in a 5 Game playoff series against the senators, when we were shutouts three games in a row. That was the worse playoff series I've ever bothered with in all my years as a Flyers fan. Oates probably should have been resigned but got little help from his teammates as a reason to stay. I believe he was in the Stanley Cup Final the following season setting up Paul Kariya

How could you not? I'd have to double check but I'm pretty sure the often hated Jeff Carter would be ahead of Roenick easily and possible Danny Briere too. Gagne would be easily ahead of Carter of course.

I can see if the right deal came around, but like someone pointed out earlier (or maybe in Engel's comments?), Simmonds isn't the biggest goal getters but he does what MAYBE 5 other players in the league do as far as grit + goals + speed + a little playmaking.
I can think of

Bobby Ryan
Evander Kane
David Clarkson
Wayne Simmonds

Borderliners

Scott Hartnell
Chris Stewart

- JAKEw1234

Huh? Sorry but hartnell has it all over Simmonds right now unless he can prove otherwise. Simmonds right now is more physical,a better fighter, faster straight ahead. That's it

They have done nicely with adding to the farm system, it's still not spectacular but it's now getting talent in it to develop.

A lot has changed in the last year or two. And year or two from now, who knows. That's why I never get overworked about deficiencies in an NHL Organization. Things change in a New York minute.

And should they want the 2014 draft will have some talent in it to even add more.

It's now going to depend on how they develop these kids & how many they end up hanging onto to play for this club.

I agree, I'm just going off some ranking that had them 29th recently. I'm looking forward to attending some phantoms games once they move to Lehigh
