His CSN articles even have mistakes. I'll never forget about his impassioned argumentative piece about how the Flyers should trade Laughton for Iginla last season. This was when the Flyers were off to a horrendous start and weren't close to a playoff spot. He posted that article on here and CSN!
Right before free agency he wrote an article about how the Flyers should pursue David Clarkson because they could sign him to a 3 years $3M deal.
His argument for the salary was taking Clarkson's average goals over his ENTIRE career. The sad thing is that he's one of the voices of the Philly hockey market. - PhillySportsGuy
Agreed. "Flyers Insider," my eye. Sad that kids in this area grow up with the likes of him, John Boruk, Randy Miller, Frank Seravalli, and Sam Carchidi being foisted on them as the sources to read for Flyers and hockey info. |

Roman Cechmanek - Flyskippy
Agreed. He was the best goalie between the pipes in Philly in the last 15+ years and it's rare anyone has anything nice to say about him. You can thank Primeau and Recchi for that. |

If bryz put up the numbers roman did I doudt he gets bought out. - twotoekenn
Exactly, no way in hell he gets bought-out. Roman literally put up Vezina numbers in the season, and our teams shat the bed in the playoffs. |

Therien v1.0 (94/95 - 01/02) wasn't too bad. There were times he drove me crazy, but if nothing else, him shutting down Jagr alone was worth him being on the team.
Therin v2.0 (02/03 - 05/06), not so much. |

Yeah, sucks because he actually put up incredible numbers and let in 1 or 2 shaky goals in a couple of playoff series' and he was toast. |

My son was able to meet Bernie when my mom-in-law let us go to the game where his book was given out. So, I took the book to get signed and Bernie let my son put on the ring. He asked the same sort of question and gave similar advice. Talk to my son about Bernie Parent and you'll get the same reaction you wrote about: He'll never forget it. Thanks for sharing, jak. - Flyskippy
My son too. His favourite Flyers of all time are Hextall and Parent. He never saw either of them play, only videos.
I wonder if you took a poll how many people have had his cup ring on their finger? I can tell you all three of the people in my family have. |

Blaming your teammates and throwing temper tantrums is - PhillySportsGuy
He never blamed a team mate.
Maybe you need to go back and watch that Buffalo game again where he yelled at the team on the ice. Their performance was shameful and instead of taking on the challenge they decided to put him in his place and shoot pucks at his head in practice like 10 yr olds. |

Bernie is one of the nicest, most interesting people I have EVER met. I used to see him all the time trolling around Somers Point (for fish and "other things") with other ex Flyers such as Tim Kerr, Rick MacLiesh, Bill Barber, and Bob Clarke.
That guy would have so many ladies around him all clamoring to go out on his boat. And he would always have time for people..ALWAYS.
And as an aside, he would never, EVER, EEEEVER, drop an fbomb around kids in public like the man who Hayes believes in the most popular Philly sports icon. Bernie has too much class for that.

Agreed, Chechmanek was the only player showing up. He had every right to call out his players. The players reacted like babies.

We had Morganti and Greenberg. Say what you will about what Al has become on that goofball morning show but he was a tremendous hockey writer and even today when he turns a serious eye toward the sport the man knows what he's talking about. |

Marcus Hayes is clueless. Regardless of what sport he is covering. Always has been. Chase Utley is going to go down as a great Phillie. Arguably the best 2nd baseman ever to play for the team. He will always be remembered for the way he played the game, his role on the World Series team. And his famous comment during the parade. But it's so much more with Bernie Parent. When Utley's playing days are over, he'll probably disapear into the sunset. Parent has remained a part of the team, and the community. And his become a legend for far more then just his Hockey career. It's actually sad that Marcus Hayes doesn't realize that. And it shows just how in tune he is with the Philly Sports scene. It's embarrasing actually. |

True story: The only reason I ever had an ESPN Insider subscription was because, way back in the time before time, Al Morganti wrote for ESPN and the only way to read his really good stuff was to have an insider account.
I still enjoy Al when he talks hockey on post games shows, etc. |

Roman Cechmanek also played in what I would consider a different era under a much, much different type of coach. |

Agreed, but that doesn't take away from his play as a Flyer, coupled with Ken Hitchcock's anemic offense... He was right in everything he called out against the Flyers. I wish we had the new Ken Hitchcock back then, would have been a whole different story. Personally, even though Ken had great numbers, he hurt that team offensively and hurt the relationship he had with the players due to his ways. |

It's amazing how Primeau is so revered for one playoff series. He was great in that series, no doubt. But they rest of his Flyers career, he came up small. |

I got the chance to meet Bernie on several occassions.....the first being at St Hubert's High School when I was a teen. The last two times.....at Whole Foods by my work in Center City Philly. He was there shopping and as much as I didn't want to bother him, I of course had to. the first time he was shopping with his son. Was he annoyed that a fan interrupted his time with his son shopping? Not in the least. He took the time to chat for 5 mins with that Bernie smile on his face. he even took the time to introduce me to his son who also was so nice and had a nice smile on his face. On both occassions he was so nice. I've never been one to be star struck having met quiite a few Flyers over the years (Pelle was another one who was so nice) but every time I run into Bernie, I am in genuine awe. |

I'd tend to agree, but I'd say small is the wrong adjective to use, too much of a negative connotation. I just think people expected him to re-produce his 2000-2001 season where he essentially set career highs. If you look at his career, his offensive output never matched his projected output from the OHL, which I think put unrealistic expectations on him throughout his career. |

The Broad Street Bullies era Flyers also had tremendous local beat writers in Jack Chevalier and Bill Fleischman especially. The 1980s had the likes of Jay Greenberg and Al Morganti. A bit like the Flyers' teams of those eras, those were VERY tough acts to follow for anyone who came afterwards. Also it should be noted that, very quietly, Wayne Fish has been on the Flyers beat in Bucks County since Shero's final season as coach -- he's covered a lot of team history in that time.

I can go along with all of this.
I will also fully admit to yelling "C'mon, Therien, hit somebody!" a bunch of times when he played. I'm fairly certain I wasn't alone there.
Between he and Keith Jones (with Clement pitching in), Flyers fans are pretty lucky, with respect to the color analysts the team has around. - johndewar
I'm a big fan of Clement. Love when he and JJ do the games.
I never had any problems with Jackson. I'm in the minority, apparently.... |
