Congrats on the gold. Pretty awesome to be a party of I would assume.
You should really think about doing a little story about it in the my hockeybuzz section. |

Funny, I was thinking a similar thought: I'd love to read his account of the Maccabiah Games.
EDIT: alternately, I wouldn't mind a Bill blog where Bill interviews our hero. |

Unbelievable experience. I went to Boston a number of years ago for basketball. If anyone or their kids have the opportunity to participate in the Maccabi games, definitely do it. |

I imagine you have moved ahead of Bryzgalov on the NHL/KHL available UFA charts.

The Broad Street Bullies era Flyers also had tremendous local beat writers in Jack Chevalier and Bill Fleischman especially. The 1980s had the likes of Jay Greenberg and Al Morganti. A bit like the Flyers' teams of those eras, those were VERY tough acts to follow for anyone who came afterwards. Also it should be noted that, very quietly, Wayne Fish has been on the Flyers beat in Bucks County since Shero's final season as coach -- he's covered a lot of team history in that time. - bmeltzer
Personally Bill,
I believe you outshine all current hockey writers in this area....Most of them are hacks.... |

Interweb fellating coming, but I totally agree. Your articles are the most insightful, level-headed, realistic, but still enthusiastic out there. Enjoy 'em everyday. Thanks Bill |

Growing up in the Philly area as a kid in the 70s, Bernie was my idol. His #1 jersey was the first Flyers jersey I ever owned and the first time I met him, I was so nervous, I could barely speak.
Marcus Hayes should be ashamed of himself for disrespecting a legend like Parent. Perhaps a visit with Paul Holmgren in a nice dark alley would set him straight!
Anyhow, my list of the top 5 most beloved living sports figures in Philly would be as follows:
1. Bernie Parent - THE MAN!
2. Brian Dawkins - I'm still ticked the Eagles let him go, shame on them!
3. Bobby Clarke - as a player he was beloved, no one worked harder
4. Julius Erving - like Parent and Clarke, he was never booed here
5. Chuck Bednarik - still adored by pretty much every fan over 60 and respected by all!
And now, the top 5 Flyers who always ticked me off
1. Doug Crossman - so much talent, so little heart, the way he just gave up on that final play against Washington in 88 was just inexcusable.
2. Behn Wilson - seemed like a bright guy off the ice and man could he fight, but he just kept making the same mistakes over and over and refused to learn from them.
3. Bryz - just too damn selfish for my tastes. IT was all about Bryz, not the team.
4. Bill Flett - the Cowboy basically drank himself out of the NHL, just sad.
5. Todd Bergen- another guy with a ton of talent and absolutely no heart whatsoever.

And warmest congrats for hammarby31 as well!! That had to be an amazing experience, and we're all very proud of you and the rest of the team. Great job.
Wish I could say more, but I've got to get back to work on my campaign to retire Primeau's number*. Please don't tell MOAT
