shhhhh.... he doesn't suspect a thing* - mayorofangrytown
I know we'll never agree on our opinions of Primeau, but in all honesty I never remember anyone on here (or anywhere else that I saw) claiming his number should be retired. As much as I like him, I'd have to agree that kind of talk is nuts. He's nowhere near deserving of an honor like that. |

I'm pretty sure Bernie Madoff played 2B for the Philadelphia A's in the 30s and 40s and Marcus Hayes... isnt he a boxer? |

I agree. But, would your opinion on that change had they won 5 more games that year? |

And now, the top 5 Flyers who always ticked me off
1. Doug Crossman - so much talent, so little heart, the way he just gave up on that final play against Washington in 88 was just inexcusable.
2. Behn Wilson - seemed like a bright guy off the ice and man could he fight, but he just kept making the same mistakes over and over and refused to learn from them.
3. Bryz - just too damn selfish for my tastes. IT was all about Bryz, not the team.
4. Bill Flett - the Cowboy basically drank himself out of the NHL, just sad.
5. Todd Bergen- another guy with a ton of talent and absolutely no heart whatsoever. - BiggE
If there is a "Most Disspointing Flyers" list, I think Chris Gratton needs to make that list, every time. To steal a turn of phrase from Bill, he was a high end role player but was paid like a scoring forward.
They went through a lot of trouble to get him on top of that. |

Bill, great stuff. Marcus Hayes is one of my least favorite sports writers in this town. I've met him out in public once, and let me say, he wasn't all that pleasant.
With regards to Bernie, I've never met him but he seems to be a genuenly nice guy. Also, listening to him on 94WIP sometime last week while he was promoting his camp, he also still knows the fundamentals of goaltending. Especially his little nugget about a shooter coming down their off wing and how to face the shot. Those kids will be wise to listen.
They should come away much more knowledgable for it. |

Marcus Hayes was the man who was brutalized by the cops and sparked the LA riots. |

Probably not. But if he continued to play the way he did in the Tampa series and say, scored the Cup winner or something equally heroic in the final, it would certainly become a more reasonable conversation. Still, I would say that even that would not warrant retiring his number. |

Gratton was a bust to be sure, but I was much more pissed at Clarke for going out signing him to a ridiculous deal than I was at the player who basically was what he was. |

It shouldn't. You can't get your number retired on one playoff run. Anaheim would have 35 warming in the back room if that was the case.
If he had stayed healthy and played 5 more years as a good team mate and produced in the playoffs even close to what he did that season he may have tempered my low opinion of him. |

There's a lot of people who think Paul Henderson should be in the HHOF for a week's worth of work.
I'm not one of them, but it's just something along the same lines to consider. |

To say that I never warmed up to Keith Primeau, is something of an understatement. Rod Brind'Amour was on his way to becoming my favorite Flyer ever (displacing Dave Poulin), and I've never really made peace with the alleged necessity of making that deal.
Likewise, when I was much younger Peter Zezel (who was one of my favorites.. but then pretty much everyone not named Carson, Crossman, or Froese was a favorite on those teams) was traded for Mike Bullard and I never ever warmed up to Mr Defense is for Defensmen. Fortunately, I only had to tolerate Bullard for two seasons.
I would like you all to know that I've made tremendous progress in regards to Keith Primeau. I can actually say his name and/or hear his name now without screaming at the top of my lungs and wanting/needing to smash things around me. |

No problem, I'll add you to the list.
Ironically, that list is a lot longer than the list of people who really do think Primeau's number should be retired.
