Maybe I'm a little different but how do you guys name certain eras? Everyone has the 90's chocked down as the Lindros Era and Giroux is close behind but as much I did like Richards and Carter, I do not consider them an Era. I do love Gagne but same for him. I have the Lindros, Roenick, Forsberg and Briere Era. Now we're heading into the Lecavalier Era. Am I off base because Giroux awesome but he's young and hasn't had the same big moments as these guys. Am I wrong? - dingo8urbaby
I actually use team nicknames or coach/GM to define Eras more than players.
For example, I'd call the Cup teams the Broad Street Bullies Era. I'd refer to the mid 1980's teams that went to two SCFs against the Oilers' juggernaut the Keenan Era. The 5 year playoff drought? The Jay Snider/Russ Farwell Era.
Even the Primeau/Roenick lead teams, I would probably refer to them as the Hitchcock Era, rather than Primeau or JR Eras |

Heaney, Angela James and Cammi Granato all played at the highest possible levels that women could attain. Hand could have played at a higher level, but didn't.
I can't agree that great numbers against inferior skill level players should be a ticket to the HHOF. - Jsaquella
What about as a builder/ambassador/whatever? It's not just that he put up great numbers. It's that he was head-and-shoulders above all of those players (no data available). Maybe he shouldn't be in as a player compared to Gretzky et. al, but his accomplishments should be commemorated by the IIHF. |

I think Bryz should get his own era too.
Yes I'm completely serious. - Giroux_Is_God

I'd have to say that, if this in an era at all, it's either the Giroux era or the Adam Hall era. - jmatchett383

He was head and shoulders in a league that had mostly guys that were no where near his talent level as a player. I can't see a reason to honor a guy for choosing to dominate in an inferior league, rather than trying to dominate in higher caliber leagues.

I agree jsaq.
It's one thing to be a man among boys in the NHL like the majority of players that deserve to be in the hall of fame.
It's another thing to be a fringe NHL caliber player playing in a league comparable to that of North American Juniors.
It's like putting lappy in the HOF because of how he cut the Q into pieces. |

Now this is a very reasonable, although I do feel Eric Lindros has earned that right to be determined an Era. Ken Hitchcock single handed changed the mindset of this team, he never should have been fired based on the slow start but Clarke had to go. In my opinion Bobby Clarke made for a better face of the franchise as far as GM's go then Paul Holmgren but Homer is a much more savvy General Manager. I however feel too much was and still was made of Richards and Carter being here. Now that Briere has left, Briere in my mind was much more of a game breaker then both Carter and Richards in their time here. I think you could debate between Roenick and Primeau. Primeau has a number of great playoff moments in Flyers history but only really showed up in the playoffs in spots. Roenick was a gamer all the time. Big goals, big plays, big hits, big talk. Big moments in his own right. I'm not so sure Primeau holds a candle to Roenick |

I hate the way that I phrased that, because the guy has had a stellar career, and he obviously was more happy to stay home and that was the basis of his decision, rather than being able to dominate an inferior league.
The way I typed it makes it seem like Hand's primary reason for staying in the inferior league was to pile up stats. It wasn't. He primarily wanted to stay in Great Britain, and he did play at the highest level there. But compared to other male HHOFers, he didn't play at anywhere near the level of competition they did. |

To me its more than just points. Im sure his presence helped build ice hockey in britain. for that alone he should be considered. I hate how the only thing we look at are point totals. |

Actually, the best player on those teams was probably Mark Recchi. If I was going to choose a player to name that era after, Rechhi would probably be ahead of both JR and Primeau |

But the only thing we have to go on are his point totals. They're concrete.
None of us (presumably) live there, can it would be unfair for us to talk about his possibly changing the game/putting it on the map. We just don't know that. |

I'd be a lot more open to adding him as a builder, as jmachett suggested, than as a player.

I'm a little worried the NHL is becoming a league for boys. There are a lot of unsigned vets who are still in their early 30's that I feel have plenty to give. When a player is playing with a serious injury, it always turns out to be an experienced vet who wants to win more then anyone. |

Yes. But that's just the thing. He was here for the Lindros years, the JR/Primeau years, the Forsberg years, etc. No one was here for "the Gagne years." He was always the other guy. - jmatchett383
He seemed to flourish in the role as "the other guy", however.
It's just amazing how long Gagne has been around this franchise as an active player. |

I will admit that Roenick gets extra credit for being a character guy, more flashy and tougher. |

I think with the salary cap going down this year a lot of teams are stuck. Guys like Morrow would have likely been signed already if it wasn't for the decrease. |

Apologize if this has been brought up...But anyone see Cloutier's 30 teams 30 comments blog?
"21. Philadelphia Flyers - Yet another place Ryan Miller or Tim Thomas could end up. An absolute dartboard of a roster, what makes me sad here is that the team will eventually deal away their good young players (Schenn x 2 and Couturier) to make room for crusty has-beens. Disastrously run franchise."
I'm not on here much, does this guy have a stupid blind hatred for the Flyers or does he actually think any of that is a reasonable assessment?

Completely asinine assessment from a completely asinine writer. Simple as that. |

Think of the amount of time Simon Gagne has been around this franchise and the crap he has seen since since he's rookie year, which was the tail end of the Lindros days.
The tail end of the Lindros years.
The Ken Hitchcock years
JR and Primeau
Game 6 vs. TB
Peter Forsberg
Worst year in history of franchise
Frick and Frack era
2010 Stanley Cup run
The start of the Giroux era - johndewar
I'm not sure this is as much eras as it is season by season? |

Lazy, stupid analysis of the Flyers from afar.
Folks can say what they want about the local press, but the national press is TERRIBLE when it comes to analyzing the Flyers. |

I wasn't trying to name eras.....I was just trying to name some of the things/people that Gagne has seen and played with.
At 33 years old, he's not necessarily an old man, but remember he started at 18 years old here. |

Fair enough, it's one thing to not like the way a team is run but at least make sense with your complaints.
Looks like the guy grabbed random things he's read idiots say in comments and ran with it. |
