I wonder how many points it will take to make the playoffs in the East next year as one of the wild card teams. - Doc_Sarcasm
95 in the east, 85 in the west |

With a likely $150mm+ expansion fee....more likely $200mm...of course they want to expand. - Jsaquella
They're going to get more than that.
You've heard the rumours the same as I did... $750,000,000 for Quebec and close to a BILLION DOLLARS for a second team in Toronto.

I'm convinced that having a hockey team in Phoenix is to Gary Bettman what continuing to fund the WNBA is to David Stern.
They both know it's a losing proposition and they just can't let it go. - johndewar
How he talked the BoGs into propping that team up for two seasons is beyond me. |

I don't believe those rumors. In fact, the first time you brought them to my attention a couple months ago, I thought you were trolling me.
edit: that might have been ob that mentioned it. swiss cheese for memory. |

I think that Seattle and Las Vegas will have (expansion) teams within 2 years. - jmatchett383

Also....if they put another team in Toronto.....I'm pretty sure Leafs ownership is gonna want to be compensated over and above the cut they will cut from expansion.
Pretty sure that's what happened in baseball when the Nats came to DC and they had to pay off the Orioles owner. |

I honestly feel that there's a lot of reasons why they continue to keep a team in Phoenix. I can't tell you what they are. But I think there's things that we aren't aware of. |

You can get the whole factory set today for $30. They were almost impossible to get when they came out. The run was so limited dealers were eventually charging close to $500 for a sealed set.
That's when I decided to get out of the whole card thing. That set right there... I was done. - mayorofangrytown
Boxes of 90/91 Upper Deck Series 2 French (with the white bottoms, not the brown ones) sold for upwards of $500. The white ones had more of the Bure/Fedorov Young Guns which were about $30-$40 each at the time. I think they're about $4 each now. |

Oh, I know why they try.
The size of the market suggests that they should try.
I would suggest they tried and they are currently throwing good money after bad.

They purposely kept large quantities of that stuff from being released to drive up the price. Then after everybody paid stupid dollars for it thousands of cases were found miraculously. |

Yeah, some of the higher-ups at Upper Deck basically had pallets full of them in their sheds.
I was at a card store maybe 9-10 years ago. Guy had a case for sale marked at $875. I think the dude later closed down and then got convicted of child molestation. If he didn't, he certainly looked like he should have been. |

That's a misread. There is a BOG. And Bettman is a business man. He's not going to keep a team somewhere that is losing money, just because he doesn't want to admit he's wrong. |

I doubt it. It's about money. He's not going to let the League lose millions due to his ego. |
