Yeah, I was higher on Shinkaruk than Horvat originally, and am pumped we got both.
I was actually hoping Gillis would choose Nichushkin or Shinkaruk at 9, but with the risk involved with picking Russians, I can understand why he went with the safer pick.
I wasn't too familiar with Horvat, and wasn't impressed with his offensive totals, but after reading some comments from London Knights' fans, it sounds like his offense took off when he was bumped to the second line. - Fosco
Yeah I was really high on Horvat and shinkaruk so I'm kind of Jealous you guys got both |

You don't really need numbers to know Schneiders a stud, and a top end NHL goalie. Not just "above average". Deboer is in a dilemma. Schneider is a way better goalie then Brodeur, right now. Does he throw Brodeur a bone by starting him the majority, and risk losing more? I'd be shocked if that happened, and shocked if Bordeur doesn't become the backup. It's about winning, and they shouldn't coddle him. The Devils have done enough for Brodeurs legacy. |

Save % is one of the most deceptive stats since it can mean that a goaltender is terrible with rebound control (Reimer, Luongo... these types of goaltenders have high save % partially because they're terrible at rebound control), while the master of rebound control is Brodeur, whom is only rivaled by Lunqvist on that front, I'd say, and that's why his save % isn't as high as other goaltenders.
Also, a goaltender's leadership skills and ability to coordinate his own defense towards his playstyle can dictate how many shots he faces a game, which also greatly affects his save %.
Beware the stat... it's not that meaningful. |

I agree with this. I love Marty, but hope Schneider gets as many if not more starts. Let Marty start opening night at home, the outdoor game at Yankee Stadium, all of that stuff, but I agree that 27 year old Schneider is a much better goalie than 41 year old Brodeur. |

As opposed to? Goalies have very little in terms of things to track and save % is more or less the best way to tell how well they are doing. Brodeur is kind of an outlier in that regard though. He has historically had a somewhat average save % because the teams in front of him generally limited the # of shots he faced, so even if he only let in 2 G/G a lot of the time it would still be a sub .900 save % |

No offense but this makes zero sense. Bad rebound control means yielding shots most likely to result in the highest % chances for the other team, which would almost always lower the save percentage. Toss in that Marty's rebound control the past several years has declined markedly and that Schneider's rebound control is pretty good. That pretty much negates your point in relation to the two goalies in question. Roberto Luongo is one of the most physically talented goalies you'll find; with a good-but-not-great career save % of .919, attained in primarily a low scoring era of hockey. I would argue that his rebound control is precisely the reason why it isn't as high as it could be given his level of physical talent. Or, at the very least, occasional bouts of bad rebound control can certainly be tied to the extremes Luongo has had his entire career, sometimes from one season to the next. Sometimes from one month to the next. |

Wow i forgot about that. 2 outdoor games for Jagr in 3 years thats pretty cool.
I hope the devils have a cool outdoor jersey and not just use the St. Patty's day jerseys. Because honestly im not sure what more they could do. |
