People really don't seem to like my Leafs/Predators offer, but I'm telling you right now: Weber's contract is a train wreck and the reason I'm making the deal is to help the Preds in the future. The deal adds roster depth and a future top pairing defenseman in Rielly, giving the Preds a chance to get a top pairing guy in a more reasonable range (maybe $5-$6mil per season when he's in his prime). The Flyers structured the Weber offer sheet in a way that they thought there was no way the Preds would match. Now, they get to live with that awful contract, no matter how good the player is.

The Leafs are one of the few teams that could actually absorb the Weber contract without it ruining the balance sheet. They get the best player in the deal, but the Preds get three solid, young pieces back, and they get to lose a contract that is terrible/dangerous.

However, now that we are past July 1, Weber has already received 27 million of the overall contract. He is due $1 million in salary the rest of the year. Nashville only has to cover 2 more years on this contract before the burden comes way down. Starting in 2018, Nashville is only on the hook for 30 million over the last 8 years of his contract. That is less than 4 million per year. If Weber hasn't been traded yet, he won't be unless a team offers up a fools ransom.

he hasn't exactly progressed as planned since his draft year. Wasn't even a PPG in the OHL this year.

Last year Cloutier said Tyler Biggs is a guy you build your team around. I think he reads 6'3 and thinks he's s superstar

Morgan Rielly was drafted 5th and fell due to injury. How the hell was he ranked 5-9? He was a top 3 talent and us Leaf fans are lucky he dropped. Nurse and Klefbom aren't even Schenn quality prospects. Rielly is a notch above all of them.

Reilly is a notch above them, but I'm not sure who told you Reilly was a top 3 prospect that year.

NHL central scouting had him ranked 5th among NA skaters, and he could've dropped even lower if someone had wanted Forsberg, Lindholm or Teravainen earlier.

Thats good- I think he should get a shake from some team willing to take a chance... the (frank)er was excellent in puck possession down low- he was better than most oilers in that respect just too bad he is mall... if he did tried working on his 2 way play he might have been traded or signed sooner...
