I'd do the Nashville deal if they could clear more cap. You need to be able to resign Kadri and Franson for this deal to go down. I'd really try to move Gardiner instead of Rielly if possible as well.

I don't recall anyone projecting him to be a first liner player. There's always value for a guy who can play a solid 3rd line role and maybe second if needed. Hell take a look at the money Clarkson was getting thrown at him, guys like Ott, Clutterbuck and Clarkson those guys have value, and that's more along the lines of what he was projected to be.

I think the production is very in line with what was expected of him.

Yeah, but he's far from a sue thing. You don't trade away a franchise d-man for a projected 3rd line winger and projected top pairing d-man. You get back at least one proven asset in return, if not another to cover your ass in case one or two of the picks/prospects you're getting in return don't pan out.

I think MR is an awesome, awesome prospect. But when you're talking about the best defenseman in the world whose competition right now is a guy with one Achilles, and a guy who is thirty-six ... you accept most any trade like this regardless of cap situation.

What sucks is that room would have to be immediately cleared for Kadri/Franson. This means that this trade isn't just X for Y; it's X for Y and Z, Z being the players I'll have to get rid of to make this work.

Former 1st round pick that just had a pretty fantastic year in junior.. He'll make the Marlies this season and he should help an NHL club within two seasons. Top line ceiling, bottom 6 floor. I'd like to think he has some value..

The guy wasn't even PPG in the OHL, and he mustered a total of 1 assist in 9 playoff games. Doesn't scream very good production to me. Just because you're a former 1st round pick doesn't mean you automatically have good value.

Something like Weber + one season of ~$4M cap retention (not sure if you can retain that much) for Liles + Rielly + Ashton + Biggs + 2014 2nd Round pick seems much more reasonable for both sides IMO.
