Okay:
Over his career here, Jeff Carter scored 181 goals on 1660 SOG and 600 missed shots. That's a goal/shot attempt of 7.4%, and he missed 26.5% of his shots.
Over his career here, Mike Richards scored 133 goals on 1169 SOG and 463 missed shots. That's a goal/shot attempt of 7.5%, and he missed 28.3% of his shots.
So Richards was slightly better at percentage of shots attempts that went in, but 2% more of his shots attempts didn't make it on goal. |

i'm also glad you know positively for a fact that carter's post-season performances were based on injury and nothing else. - hammarby31

Thats fine and all but we arent comparing who is the better goal scorer but instead who the better player is and thats clearly Mike Richards, by a texas mile |

You also have to remember that Richards was more of a passer, so his shot attempts were usually better scoring chances. Carter just shot from everywhere. |

did he manage to elevate his game somehow or no?
some players can and some can't, he doesn't and that's why a lot of fans are meh on him
listing his injuries isn't going to change that and suddenly make him an old fan favorite - Don'tForgetTocchet
I don't see how I'm disputing that some players have or haven't. Nor am I trying to change anything or make him a fan favorite. I'm just stating the facts. And it's not true that Carter doesn't elevate his game in the playoffs. He clearly did the last two playoff seasons in LA. And he was healthy. Playoff runs in Philly he was not healthy. Just a coincidence?
Why did Anze Kopitar struggle in the playoffs this past Season? He clearly was not 100%. |

That comment is based on watching the flyers every single game seeing as I live in Philly and can do so. Carter misses the net with a vengeance - GOA88
You do have to keep in mind that snipers WILL miss more often because they are trying to snipe a spot -- usually top corners. Thus his misses will miss the net and not even count as a SOG. Whereas, less accurate shooters will try to put shots on net to create rebounds, etc. |

I base that off of being a complete player, skill, leadership, etc. etc.
The team as a whole struggled last season. You seem to forget Giroux owning Crosby 2 springs ago. Also Giroux was voted by the players as the 3rd best player in the league behind Crosby and Datsyuk. So I think my assesment is pretty accurate. - GOA88
I didn't forget it. Hell I started off stating exactly that.
Last years Ted Lindsay finalists were Crosby, Ovechkin and St. Louis so I'd say the facts leading to your assessment are as faulty as the assessment itself. |

Bryzgalov tops my list as the worst. It was unbearable to watch him play.... and before we have any defenders on him please consider the fact that other goalies we had when he played for us played fairly better than him with the same defense if not depleted defense and the same system. |

Also, Giroux's performance two springs ago have no bearing on his comparatively pedestrian season this year. |

Yep, which is why I said in a previous post that percentage wise, Richards missed the net more. But a frequent criticism of Carter was that he misses the net too much. If you do the same math over the years with the top shot producers in the League, you'd find that how much Carter misses the net is pretty much the norm for top shot producers. I know this because I've done this exercise in the past. |

They actually played together in Philly (see: http://www.broadstreethoc...e-2010-flyers-jeff-carter).
And he doesn't seem to have an issue playing wing in LA because someone he respects finally pulled him aside and dropped science on him or he realized that he would probably play on a higher line in LA if he moved to wing.
I mean, he wasn't going to get either of Kopitar or Richards' spot. - johndewar
I'm aware that they played together here. That's who the whole myth that they can't play well together came about. That's proven to be untrue. As for the rest of your post, pure speculation. Same as saying that Carter resisted playing Wing here. No real evidence to support that, that I'm aware of. |

*ahem*
I was sitting at the Flyers game at the end of last season with Gagne's wife, his family, etc. and we discussed going to Caffe Aldo Lamberti for dinner. We did, though Gagne's wife wasn't feeling well. I rolled my 'Vette into the parking lot, accidentally scared Gagne's mom with the loud carburetor, and promptly sat at the bar waiting for the rest of my entourage to arrive, including Mark Messier.
