I didn't see his name on the list. Must have missed that.

Lack of context. There's a big difference between a player who goes from 34 goal 73 pt scorer, and declines to the point where in the 03/04 regular Season, he flat out stunk. He scored 7 goals in 54 games. Versus a young player who is developing and becomes what he is going to be.
There were two reasons why Briere had trouble scoring. The biggest reasons were the injuries he had. And last Season, he's just getting older and isn't the player he used to be.
And if I was going to vote based on who was a better defensive player. I'd vote for Handzus. Because Primeau isn't even the best defensive Center on the list.
But again, there should be no argument here. It's an opinion vote. I'm just shocked that Primeau is so far ahead in the voting over Briere. Not that anyone is wrong for voting for who they did. That's my only point here. - MJL
I agree with you on your last point. There is no right or wrong answer. It's opinion. If everyone had the same opinion we would be robots. |

The point was, where in the rules does it state a team has to win the Stanley Cup for a player to be awarded the Conn Smythe? |

Forsberg has more votes than Roenick?
- Coburns_Nose
That's kinda criminal, isn't it? Forsberg was awesome when he played, but he just wasn't a Flyer for long enough.
J.R. Superstar was no slouch when he was a Flyer -- I actually think he earned every penny of his contract, especially in the clutch-and-grab era. |

My earliest Flyers memory was the unbeaten streak in 1980. I already knew about Bobby Clarke even before that, because when we played street hockey, it was with Mylec stuff endorsed by Clarkie.
I remember watching the game they lost the streak against Minnesota and feeling just crushed by it. |

It doesn't, but overwhelmingly the record shows that typically to the victor go the spoils. |

It's not a rule, per se, as much as a convention.
Kinda like the Super Bowl MVP usually coming from the winning team.
Ron Hextall won the Conn Smythe when the Oilers beat the Flyers in the Finals in 1987. |

Agree. I appreciated his playoff performances and acknowledge his defensive shortcomings but respect the guy too much as a player to call him useless. |

Then you would be foolish, Carter is by far the most overrated flyer I've seen in my time |

Yup. Briere could have won the Conn Smythe in 2010. You could argue he was better in the playoffs than Toews was. |

There is no rule, but more times then not it goes to a player on the Cup winning team. Which I'm sure you're aware of. |

Leon (frank)ing Stickle. - PLindbergh31
just saw a post on FB yesterday that Nystrom's jersey from that game is up for sale. it was hovering around 26k. it's amusing to me that so many people still erroneously believe the Nystrom goal was the offside goal. i'm also amused by flyers haters arguing that because the sutter offside goal only made the game 2-1, it really had no bearing on the outcome and we should get over being "butthurt". this phrase that recently came from i don't know is (frank)ing stupid. |
