I disagree. Carter was a good two-way player. He played on the PK and was a solid faceoff man.
JR was a seasoned veteran by the time he came to the Flyers, but his two-way game throughout his career wasn't always the greatest.
The knock on Carter was that he didn't dominate games like he should with his natural ability. He seemed to want to play Robin. He, also, didn't elevate his game in the playoffs like Richards and G do. - PhillySportsGuy
And the reason why he didn't elevate his game in the playoffs was due to injuries. He's been very good in the playoffs the last 2 Seasons in LA. |

Fair or not, my lasting impression was him not burying the goal late in Game 6. It's not fair, but when someone mentions him, that's the first thing that comes to mind. - jmatchett383
I'm not saying JR wasn't a good player. That moment when he silences the Leafs is my favorite in Flyers history.
I just think people need to put Jeff Carter in perspective. He was a good player that we always felt could give us more. Once he scored 46 goals, everyone wanted him to keep scoring at that clip while also playing strong two-way hockey.
I think many people thought the next step for him after his great year would be to become a top 10 player in the league. That just never happened. |

More seriously I didn't think you were short when you played for my team. You made some fine saves against a stacked opponent. |

I didn't care about the tenure of how long they played in Philly. The best three in my opinion:
G
Forsberg
Preems
I chose Preems to handle third line duties. |

Thats the reason I couldnt care less about Carter. Richards on the other hand was the player I wish we kept. My point is this and clearly just an opinion. Roenick even as a seasoned vet gave more to the flyers than Carter ever did. He just popped in some goals.... he had no heart, didnt play physical enough, played the perimeter....
I mean we are talking about the flyers here right??? Carter isnt your typical flyers breed we expect. - GOA88
You don't score 46 goals in a Season by playing the perimeter. Every discription you give of Carter is innacurate. It's a shame. But that is just the way it is for some. |

I don't think it was entirely injuries. I just don't think he was built to carry a team. We needed Carter and Richards to be able to match up with Crosby and Malkin.
That simply wasn't going to happen. |

cursed. i'm convinced 2000 and 04 were cup winners had they gotten past those ecf Game 7s. it still makes me so (frank)ing mad. - hammarby31

Funny how he's stayed healthy in LA during the playoffs, and couldn't do so here.

I went with G, Richards and Forsberg. 1.5 seasons of Forsberg is still better than most players in 3 seasons.
I would pick Primeau for 4th line center. - PhillySportsGuy

technically speaking, 5'9" is average height for a caucasian male. at least it used to be. it's probably more now. seems like every guy in the league is 6'3-6'6" these days. they must be growing people in a lab somewhere. |

When you have a team only allowing 1 goal per game, scoring 1 goal goes a long way. The Flyers always seem to be involved in 5-4 playoff games. |

All of these people holding games played against Forsberg. I wonder if people will hold that against Pronger too |

First two picks were easy for me: Giroux and Forsberg. The third was a bit tougher, but I went with Primeau for size over Richards and JR.
I'm definitely a little surprised Forsberg is currently in 4th place. Not for nothing, but nobody on that list is better than Foppa, unless we're bringing back his foot issues as well, in which case Primeau's got some problems too. |

The 46 goal season was really an aberration.. that is until this season.
The problem I had with Carter was that he was never dominant as he could be. There were times (the PHX game I was at where they came back and won in OT) where he flat out dominated EVERY facet of the game.
And then there were times where he didnt seem to give his all. I think he relies too much on natural god given talent at times. If he had Richies heart and motor, he would be a top 5-10 talent in the NHL, season in and out. |

I hold his inability to find a skate that fit and refusal to take a penalty shot against him.

That foot issue was quite annoying..... especially when you have players that play thru worse injuries than that. |
