EDIT: It's not fair of me to jump in like that. I didn't listen to Hart. I'm 19. However, I grew up listening to Harry and he holds a special place in my heart along with the city's. I've listened to Hart on classic games like you, and in my opinion, Kalas is in another league.

As witnessed in yesterday's Flyers of 2000s poll, in which Forsberg placed a distant fourth behind Claude Giroux, Mike Richards and Keith Primeau, people forget just how dominant Forsberg still was at that time -- at least when semi-healthy enough to be in the Flyers lineup. Even with just 100 regular season games and six playoff games as a Flyer before a trade to Nashville, I would personally have chosen Forsberg as one of my three centers over Primeau.

I guess it comes down to whether our decision is supposed to be based solely upon what the player did in a Flyers uniform or not?

Although for me it doesn't really matter. Foppa is, without a doubt, the best player of the 4 listed above.

I voted for Sami Kapanen without an ounce of remorse or a second of hesitation.

Are we talking about the most....I dunno....iconic announcer? Or the best announcer in terms of actual commentating skills?

Harry has got to be the most iconic. He's been called a baseball icon, let alone a Philly one. I'm not so sure Philadelphia has loved a non athlete any more than him, and even if you include athletes in there he's gotta be top 5. The Phils and Harry are synonymous...

That being said, if we talk about the "better" announcer, I'd tend to agree with you in that hockey is a harder game to announce as compared to baseball (and any other sport, for that matter). I'd also agree with the fact that Hart was the "better" announcer, but this is going by word of mouth since I didn't hear him call any games, unfortunately. I don't doubt once that Hart taught so many the game and was an enjoyable personality and announcer, because countless older and wiser folks have said that about him.

Harry is iconic, yes. I agree there. I just believe Gene Hart is more iconic and was a better announcer. Harry was helped by Whitey's presence, as far as educating the viewer is concerned. Hart did not need anyone else, as his teaching background allowed him to easily relate the game to his viewers in an educating way without being too simple for those already educated or too wordy for those just getting to know the game.
