Well I don't know who is on Millers list of teams who he wants to play for, I'm pretty sure Edmontons becoming a more attractive place to play though...not for the city itself but that team is getting closer to becoming an absolute powerhouse - annoyance_101
Its true. Assuming they can hang on to all these kids when they are due for their big pay day |

This list is a big mystery. Anywhere that plays for then once in LA is attractive to him I think |

I hear what you're saying but Dubnyk hasn't played in a playoff game yet and Schnieder played in quite a few. He has definitely proven more then Dubnyk. |

Pretty much my point. If the oilers are going for the playoffs Miller is definitely a better option - sbroads24
This year, at a cost of no players/picks/prospects to acquire, with his familiarity/chemistry with the team, willingness to be here, and cheaper cost, I'll take Dubnyk over Miller.
Make sense? |

Miller is, by my estimation about 68 times less likely to re-sign in Edmonton than Hemsky is to re-sign in Buffalo. |

I don't see how, without the cap going up drastically...although if you think about it, the very legit teams have guys like Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook or Malkin, Crosby, Letang, Fleury, its very possible for them to retain Hall, Eberle, Nuge and Yak...problem is, they've concentrated far too much on offense IMO...nothing the other 2 teams i've listed have a D man in their highly priced players, i could have done it with Boston too, i just hate them too much to list them as elite...but they've got Chara as theirs...i think yak should be and needs to be traded for a D man... |

Honestly, I think Oiler fans should get used to seeing Hemmer for at least half the upcoming season. Buffalo fans need to realize that as good as Miller may be, it would take a special situation for a team to even call about Miller. He is not a cap friendly player , this year especially . Even if a team really did want him, what's he worth for 1 season? It's a pretty big risk giving up a player of significance if you already lack depth like Edmonton does...you can Hemmer but really I don't see a deal that benefits the Oil past this season.its not like Miller is the missing piece to a playoff berth and cup run or anything . |

why? - French-Connection
Because Edmonton sucks almost as much as Buffalo, doesn't have all that much money to spend on goaltending and the city is certainly among the least glamourous in the NHL. Miller would likely only get about 45-50 games of work with Edmonton. The likelihood that he'd resign appears to be close to zero.
Hemsky will be grateful that a team took the chance to acquire him. |

Do the math. All those guys are making north of 3.5 mil now. All they have to find is an extra 6 mil for the 3 of them and were good. |

That is why I said I think they could...did you read what I actually said? I said although...and explained why its possible that they very possibly could keep the players they have now...problem is, the players they have now have not gotten them to the playoffs, they need to tweak it more than they have so far...I'd want another D-man if i were the oilers...like myers...thats why i think something surrounding yak and myers should happen...i dont like yak though...i'm not a fan of him being young and russian, the fear of the KHL could come up in the near future for him... |

Team makeup? That's a legitimate complaint. We'll have to see how well our top 3 prospects - all Dmen - transition into the NHL. If we reach cup contention, it'll be among the few that do it with old forwards and young D, as opposed to the other way arround.
Actual dollars and cents cap issues? Unlikely. A lot of fat contracts will come off the books after this season. As I said in another thread, Hemmer, Smyth, and Nick Schultz make a combined 10.75 while each playing 1-1.5 million dollar positions. That savings this year will cover Schultz, Nuge and Petry's raise and then some.
It's a make or break year for Dubnyk, but we may very well see ourselves letting him go. Who knows how much they'll spend on goaltending but at 3.5 per, we could arguably go a little cheaper on a veteran guy. |

No because Miller is better. Hemsky would make the money work. It all depends, like I said if your trying to make the playoffs this season. Miller is the better option, no one outside of EDM would think Dubnyk is better than him. |

You would be crazy to want Dubnyk over him. Sorry. Not saying Miller is worth a ton, but he's a proven workhorse who has hardware and playoff experience. Dubnyk has proven nothing compared to him - sbroads24
ill take dubs at half the price.
and we don't have to spend any assets to acquire/keep dubs |

Lots of players are better. Malkin is better than RNH, it still doesn't mean that paying whatever cost necessary to acquire him makes the most sense.
Besides, I'm not denying I'd take Miller for Hemsky, but you guys are arguing it'd be WAY MORE than that, right? can't have it both ways.
Finally, for you to claim that we need to make this deal if we are trying to make the playoffs implies A) It is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE we'd make the playoffs with Dubnyk in net, and B) It is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE we'd miss the playoffs with Miller in net. You can't truly believe that can you? |

No I understood just fine. I think to say after 1 year of not winning with those 5 players that its a bit early to comment on them as a winning/losing unit . |
