Lots of players are better. Malkin is better than RNH, it still doesn't mean that paying whatever cost necessary to acquire him makes the most sense.
Besides, I'm not denying I'd take Miller for Hemsky, but you guys are arguing it'd be WAY MORE than that, right? can't have it both ways.
Finally, for you to claim that we need to make this deal if we are trying to make the playoffs implies A) It is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE we'd make the playoffs with Dubnyk in net, and B) It is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE we'd miss the playoffs with Miller in net. You can't truly believe that can you? - Morris
I'm not saying it would be much more. If you guys are going for it this year and trying to get in the playoffs it makes sense. If your still feeling out the young guns and being patient it makes 0 sense |

ill take dubs at half the price.
and we don't have to spend any assets to acquire/keep dubs - hugefemale dog77
I hear you about the cap hit. But sending Hemsky out makes that a wash. It really depends on what the team is projected to accomplish next year I guess |

dubnyk had better numbers than miller behind what was arguably a worse defence.
whether miller has proven far more in his career or not, this is a 'what have you done for me lately' league.
spending assets to acquire a player that could walk at the end of they year, has double the salary and had worse numbers is what truly makes zero sense.
we know hemmer needs a change of scenery, so I would offer him and a middling prospect/pick |

Acquiring a goaltender who wants to go to a proven winner in a big market and didn't 100% want to be there could de-rail the whole season. You've got two very competitive goalies there.
It's important that they acquire not only a great player but also a great locker room fit.
Out of curiosity though, since not much more than Hemsky sounds like a lesser asset than him, what do you think the package would be? |

Yeah, sucking is a bigger issue than cap - Morris
Obviously they need to not suck, but I wonder if the Oilers make some serious inroads and are competitive to the end, if that will attract a decent free agent or 2? There is a chance that Dubnyk flatlines and Mac T will need a new goalie a year from now. Aside from Miller, who's out there? |

Millers a washed up bum, that is overpaid. He's not even worth a 1st round pick anymore.
No Thanks, Hemsky can stay if thats all we can get for him. (this should stir the pot) |

yes.
im not against miller. im just against trading our limited valuable assets for what is essentially a gamble that could walk in a year.
id do hemmer plus though |

well you might be the only fan in the world in Edmonton that thinks Dubnyk can help you more than Ryan Miller, dont get me wrong, you guys are on the verge of an amazing season IMO..but for us to give away a goalie that can lead a team to a stanley cup would be plain stupid of us to do for nothing..everybody in the NHL world knows the Oilers want to get rid of Hemsky badly..and I guarantee we will get a 1st rounder in the deal for Miller, thats a no brainer..hell look what we got for Pomer from Minny - French-Connection
This is why this RUMOR is garbage. We don't want or need a head case like Miller. We have Duby and IMO he is going to excel this year. If its Hemsky and a first for Miller then Buffalo has to throw in a 3rd line winger with size.. |

Miller could be inspired in a year when he's a UFA.
It's better to wait and find out whether he wants to sign with us and for what cost, then to acquire him and then find out he has no interest in re-signing or demands a raise. |

nurse cant play in the ahl.
nhl or junior.
he'll be sent back to junior without question.
he wont even get the benefit of the doubt. it's just better if he goes back |

YOU'RE POINT IS CONPLETELY IRREVELANT
1) Oilers have tons of cap room, so that irrelevant
2) if there was a team interested where his cap# played a factor, the Sabres have shown in previous seasons (multiple times) that we will pay salary or take back a contract the other team wants to get rid of
respond - jdfitz77
we have less than 2mil left in the cap..Yeah lots of room |

Honestly I think the Sabres are trying to move Brayden McNabb along with Miller.
Miller +McNabb
For
Hemsky+2nd+ B prospect
Something like that |

It doesn't make sense for Buffalo to trade Miller for another veteran player also in a contract year...especially one who probably won't score 15 goals. You can expect Miller to play well this year (contract, Olympics), so Darcy won't just trade him for the hell of it. He would probably trade him heads up for someone like Sean Couturier,(not that philly would go for it), or trade him for a less proven prospect and a late 1st or 2nd pick with Bflo. eating some salary.
Just my opinion. Go Sabres. |

Hemsky for Liles+a prospect would make more sense, with Edmonton retaining the salary difference for this year. - Rysko81

I kinda figured with the likes of Vanek, Hodgson, and Stafford you'd be looking for more of a setup man. |

who else has a NTC that the oilers might trade hemsky for? just trying to work this one out in my head a bit. I honestly don't see this at all. but it's worth some thought. I think The rumor biz is so slow right now Ek's fishen for hits but it's an interesting thought. THot the miller for hemsky, the hemsky for player with NTC. |
