I'm all for sticking with the Big Easy this year. If he doesn't work out, address it next year. I think he will be a solid tender. MacT needs to address the teams size and D first. - doon
Size is overrated, what we need is compete level. Detroit and Chicago have a few big boys but its the mid-little sized guys that carry those teams to cups, Ditto Pittsburgh. |

we might already have both.
but for realz, dubs is probably never gonna be elite. but he's far from the problem |

seriously...+ so many it hurts...
give us a better Dcore (and the Oil have a better core than the past few years so far on paper) and DD wont have to face 33 shots a night... |

Does everyone forget the LONG list of mediocre goalies to win the cup?
In fact, I wonder if there are actually more elite cup winning goalies than non-elite cup winners... |

maybe it's not little but there are plenty of guys that aren't particularly big for their position/role on both of those teams.
2010/2012 Blackhawks
Bolland, Krueger, Shaw, Sharp, Keith, Campbell, Versteeg, Madden
2009/2012 Penguins
Dupuis, Kunitz, Letang, Sutter, Martin, Recchi, Sykora, Talbot
If those guys are considered big, then Hall, Perron and eventually Nuge will be fine for size. Ference, Petry, Smid and Schultz are fine in the top 4 too. |

Well I said mid-little sized did I not?
Bolland [6'0 184]
Kruger [6'0 180]
Shaw [5'10 180]
Oduya [6'0 190]
Leddy [6'0 190]
and Kane [5'11 180]
These are the little guys, I didn't mention any mid size guys.

but his point was still ridiculous.
it's totally black and white. anytime a team wants to trade a player it's because he sucks. there are no mitigating factors ..ever. - hugefemale dog77
We don't want to trade Miller because he sucks. Not even close. |

Not exactly what i would call the guys who carried the team to the cup. That would be the other guys you know Seabrooke, Keith, Toews, Bickell, Sharp, Hossa, Handzus, Hjarlmalapapayson etc. Only Sharp and Kane are really regular size guys. The rest offer some serious pushback and heavy leaning as well as skill. The Oilers are doing fine collecting the skill part, the rest is needed for the next step. |

We'll see. Our pro scouts apparently twisted MacT's arm to finalize a perron deal because his underlying possession stats were very favourable. That may indicate we're aiming for an up-tempo team that focuses on puck possession.
Yost says those kind of metrics map really well onto on-ice success, so we'll see. That being said, having guys that can shield the puck with their body adds another dimension to puck possession skill so it really couldn't hurt to add functional size.
The way I see the future lines:
Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Big Winger-Nuge-Eberle
Perron-Big shutdown centre-defensive winger
energy winger-Gordon-energy winger |

I seen all of that before however, if you follow our team or our CLUELESS GM, you would know he likes to talk and that's it. - SABRES 89

I think a change for Miller would be good, also think that would bring back his elite status. Edmonton needs to start winning soon and Miller would be a good help towards. I like dubey but he's no Ryan Miller, yes Miller has had rough couple seasons but that was the team in general. I don't see buffalo taking Hemsky back no point for them as they are rebuilding and is why they want to trade Miller all he will do is help them draft in a worse position. I think it will be more like prospect, picks possibly dubynk going back. - Yeti1181
If you replaced Dubnyk with Miller last season, the Oilers would have done worse. |

Yes, the don't need to be monsters, just enough size to force their skill and speed to the middle. You need strength and will to go with speed and skill.

for example, Steve Ott, Nikolai Kulemin and Colin Greening are all UFAs next year. Longshot we'd get them all at any kind of a good price, but if we went out and got them we could look like this:
Hall-Gags-Yak
Greening-Nuge-Ebs
Perron-Ott-Kuli
Joensuu-Gordon-Jones
I'd feel really confident with that group heading into 2014-2015 |

If that's the deal straight up, I would do it if I was Edmonton. I don't see why Buffalo would do it, I think they would want prospects and picks instead. |

Just one of Greening or Kulemin would make me pretty happy.
Joensuu might be something. He'll probably just be a third liner at best. But that's all Bickell really is when he doesn't have Toews or Kane with him. |
