I liked Biron, but his lasting impression in my mind was the Pittsburgh game in 2009. They came back from (I believe) either 4-2 or 5-3 down int he third and tied it. Then there was that dump where Biron came out to the blue line and jumped on it...then he let it go to a Pittsburgh player who gave it to Crosby and an easy empty netter and Pittsburgh won. The next day was the Carnival and the line for autos/pictures with him was pretty bare. - jmatchett383
I was working in Avalon that day. When that happened, the guy whose house I was in cursed and threw his beer...hitting his nice big HDTV and causing grievous damage to it...I sort of left after that, as he wasn't in a talking mood |

I re-set the poll so people can vote for Bobrovsky if they so desire.
I counted all vote tallies and percentages from the initial vote, but feel free to re-vote if you want to, because the percentages are what counts. If Bob were to come out ahead of leader Cechmanek in the re-vote, he'd win.

I was at that game with some college friends from Pittsburgh.
I was not amused. |

He was sitting there like Private Joker after Private Pyle killed Sgt Hartmann in the head in Full Metal Jacket.
I really thought he was going to cry...had to bag it |

To me it's a no-brainer to pick Cechmanek. Two Bobby Clarke Trophies and a Vezina finalist season did it. He had consistency issues in the playoffs but was mostly the victim of a lack of goal support. There were only three playoff starts of his that were truly horrendous, but two of them were in elimination games.

What he managed to do in just 3 seasons in Philly was nothing short of remarkable. The Flyers all-time stats are hard to discount: 1st in GAA and SV%, #2 in SO (20), #4 in Wins (92)... all that and he never started more than 60-games in any one season.
Cecho is like the anti-Primeau... steady, solid track-record of production and success and all anybody will remember about him is his emotional implosion in the PO's. Primeau underachieved badly for most of his Flyers career, yet one PO run was enough to effectively raise him to sanctified status. |

I know the Pens came back from 3 goals. (The infamous Carcillo/Talbot fight game). I've tried to erase that game from my memory.
The problem with Biron was you never knew if he'd make the save no matter how easy or how difficult it was. When he was locked in, he was really locked in, but when he was struggling he really struggled. Lack of consistency doomed him, but he played very well during the surprising playoff run of '07-08 |

What were the circumstances around trading Cechmanek away?
Was it simply locker room stuff?
After all, they only got a 2nd round pick back for him. |

Infamous skating to center ice and berating his teammates during the Ottawa series incident... leading to the team shooting at his head during practice the next day.
He asked to be traded before the next season, and Clarkie was more than glad to accommodate his request. |

I wouldn't go so far as to call Cechmanek "steady".
He was traded away for a 2nd round draft pick because he was inconsistent at the worst times.
You can't take away what the guy did here, but let's not get carried away.

He'd have his off moments/games like any goaltender, but he was more often a difference-maker in net than not, and you really can't say that about any of the other Flyers goalies of the 2000's. Niitty had some moments, and Bob did early on as well, but for three straight seasons, Cecho was consistently great. |

A bunch of babies couldn't handle the truth, so it was easier to ship him out than deal with the real issues. |

What I remember most about Cechmanek was that the team couldn't buy a goal in the playoffs during his stint. Other than that he gave them a chance to win. But like was said, when you score 2 goals in a 5 game series, I don't care how "backbreaking" any of the goals he let up were.
There are high expectations, and then there are inhuman expectations.

I still love when Chechmanek called out the team during the playoffs. He wasn't wrong in doing so. Unfortunately the forwards and defense who set a modern day futility playoff record for offense were not amused and it was easier to get rid of 1 guy than to deal with pissing off the guys who were the real problem. |
