I like Hall. I'm not trying to put down Hall and say he's not a good player but IMO JT is better.

And JT is not overrated.

- NYI44

2different type of players... both have what maybe 10% of nhl players have and that heart. Both in turn of raw skill are probably equal, I think hall is a better scorer but JT is a little more rounded and I think that comes with his lacross background. Either wsy the debate is silly, together they will probably make for one of the best 3-4 lines canadas ever had.

I'd have given Bobrovsky or Ovi the hart before JT.

My point is the difference is so small between how good JT and Hall are, but fans think JT is a god compared the Hall thanks to the media

Alright. I think they're at the same level. Although Hall is a year younger and had a better year.

And JT has been overrated since he was 15. If you lived in Canada you'd know

Why even pay attention to the media? That's the landsberg type drama. You actually think ovi deserved that?

Tavares brought his team to the playoffs something that Hall did not do. Tavares is playing with Moulson and Boyes. I know Boyes had a decent amount of points, but if you watched an Isles game you would realize how terrible he is! He made the first line worse. Every time he had the puck he would turn it over. The only reason Moulson has had 30 goals was because of JT. He makes the players around him much better. So maybe the points are close, but JT started to dominate the whole league this year and was a Hart Trophy finalist. I like Hall, but you can't say Hall is better than Tavares.
- NYI44

Tavares was not the only reason the Islanders made the playoffs. If Hall and Tavares switched teams, it would have been the same results... If you want to talk dominating, you should have checked out Hall this year... Every shift he played, he was a beast.

Hall had 3 more points in 3 less games. Was +5 on a team that was -9. Tavares was -2 on a team that was even. Hall played tougher minutes.

Not saying Hall's better, but the gap is slight, and people don't see it thanks to the media building Tavares up.

Cmonnnnnnnnn!!! No way john tavares is overrated...! That's like saying hall is overated!

Most people think Tavares is a god, while Hall is a very good player... So it's not the same at all.

JT was robbed of the Hart. The Pens were the best team in the east with Crosby missing 12 games and Ovi decided to show up for half the season. JT should have won it.

And that trade proposal is obviously crazy.

- NYI44

I'll certainly agree with you there.

They are nowhere near as popular/overrated as Tavares... For instance, although Hall has outproduced him basically every year in the NHL so far, most people still believe Tavares is a much bigger offensive threat. Some even say there is no comparison between the two, which is laughable.

Here's an example of that... http://hfboards.hockeysfu.../showthread.php?t=1479459

Define out produce ?
Hall always had and still does have better line mates. And while hall out scored JT this year I'd rather have JTs 28 goals and 47 pts to Halls 16g/50Pts

Out of 100 I'd give JT a 94 and Hall a 93

Both are extremely gifted players, different styles, but both amazing

Point per game average...

Hall 1st season: 0.65
Tavares 1st season: 0.65

Hall 2nd season: 0.86
Tavares 2nd season: 0.85

Hall 3rd season: 1.11
Tavares 3rd season: 0.99

Hall 4th season: ??
Tavares 4th season: 0.98

But if you want to factor in injuries prior to last season, I can understand that perspective as well. All depends how you define it, I agree.

The biggest difference to me is that Tavares elevates the play of others around him (much like Crosby, only less so). It remains to be seen (at least in my view) if Hall does the same thing.

He certainly elevated the play of Gagner. Eberle and RNH were injured this season, so it's hard to tell with them... Although the year before that, it appeared that they both didn't need another player to elevate their game.

I think you'd have to watch oiler games and islander games to get that.

I get the sense that every non oiler and non islander fan here didn't see more than 3 oiler games or 3 islander games this year

Man oh man. If you knew what WOWYs were (with or without you). Hall carries Eberle and RNH. Just ask those Richards over at Copper&Blue(really just Zona and Batty)

I didn't see the WOWYs, but it appeared that he certainly had to help them out this year. Hopefully Eberle and RNH get over their injuries and return to form.

I think Eberle may be like Hossa in that he needs to be surrounded by good players to play well. Not that it's a problem. He'll probably be playing with Hall-RNH for 6 more years.

RNH on the other hand was 19 and had a torn labrum.

Hall's just a dominant player. I don't think many non-oiler fans realize it. The guys that love fancy stats LOVE hall
