At the time, $4M was a hefty price tag for a guy that wasn't a guaranteed top 4 dman. Plus, he was the Flyers 5th dman for a while. $4M seems like a lot for a 5th dman.

It was still a good move at the time. I just don't know if it was a slam dunk on Homer's side. Part of the reason he came for a 2nd was because of the length and amount left on his deal. You assume risk when you take that kind of money on. Mez contract has become a bit of a problem this offseason.

It's one of those trades that worked out well for both sides -- when I mentioned it as one of Yzerman's better moves, I didn't mean for it to come off as being critical of Homer and/or Mez.

Tampa dumped over $18M in salary commitments for a player that was struggling badly for them... that's a good move for them considering they were desperate to get their financial house in order after the previous regime treated the UFA market like fantasy hockey.

Yeah, Mez played well at times for the Flyers, nobody is disputing that. But if that contract is hard to trade in 2013, imagine how bad it was several years ago when the cap was significantly lower.

That's news to me. Last doctor I saw was in April and that was a neurologist for my PCS. Of course I did physical therapy for that, so I suppose that counts.

Now that they've been absorbed mainly by the Atlantic, and Metro divisions, I'm interested in how the former Southeastern teams do.

I think we are going to find out that the Islanders are a lot better when they have teams to regularly play against that aren't Philly, Pittsburgh, Jersey or the Rangers.

I think it will be interesting in seeing how The Red Wings adapt to playing a full season against tighter checking Eastern teams.

It will be nice to see what Winnipeg can do without the crazy travel Schedule .
