Homer did well the first 2 years. Been regressing since than. If Streit doesn't die or lose a leg it will be a good off-season. However, we all know Streit will suffer a career ending arm injury which will force the medical staff to operate on him before paramedics get there... in which case i'm 100% confident he dies.

They changed the dzone scheme to collapse like the Rangers/Devils at the start of the year... Homer and Snider shoved that down his throat, probably. Players, by their own admission, had trouble catching on, and a lot of the mess we saw with coverages could partly be attributed to that. Bryz was complaining about the change too... according to him, so many defenders collapsing in front of him he couldn't see the puck... heh. - Tomahawk
The change the Flyers made in the defensive zone was in the coverage with the puck below the net. I seriously doubt that Holmgren and Snider had anything to do with that. It was really a basic change. |

Edmonton is a tough place to work, insofar as, it's tough to get free agents to go there.
But yes, their young talent is pretty damned good.
As for being a GM, there is part of me that thinks "wouldn't it be great to be the GM of the Canadiens when they win their next cup?".......
....And then I sober up and realize that that would be an awful existence (pressure, the press, etc.) in Montreal if you don't win a Cup. - johndewar

To be fair, though, he inherited a hell of a mess from OK Hockey, LLC.
Ironically, two of his better moves involved the Flyers... dumping Mez and Matt Walker's contracts off on Homer. - Tomahawk
Actually, I'd give the nod to Holmgren on the Meszaros deal. Obtaining a quality defenseman for a 2nd round pick. That was an absolute steal. |

Well thank you sir. I hope its pessimism that affects my opinion of Schenn and Couts. Can't stand either of them. I'm counting down the days until Homer trades them. I can live with keeping Couts, but Schenn's got to go! |

An AAV of 4M for a top 4 defenseman is cheap. |

The lightning were using Mez and O'donnell as a top pairing.
I'd give the nod to Homer in that move, but the salary played a big part in getting rid of him. |

I like the trade. I like Mez. However, I wouldn't call it a steal of a trade. 4m is a large price tag. |

Meszaros' salary is about average for a top 4 defenseman. The deal, in and of itself, was fine. If Meszaros could have stayed healthy the past two years, it would be a very good deal for the Flyers...the main reason Meszaros is on the fringe is because it's hard to rely on a guy with the amount of injuries he's sustained the last 18-24 months. |

You can do MUCH BETTER in NHL13 (especially if you use the default rosters: Kubina' trade value is amazing). |

Can't trade for players who teams aren't interested in giving away. I tried doing Giroux, Schenn, and 2 1st's and the GM told me I was way short on value.
Had to go to roster management and force the trades before I started my GM mode. Stupid Jerks.
BTW, Stalberg is awesome to have in NHL13. |

It was a good deal for the Flyers. No complaints on the deal. Mez can still have an impact as long as he stays healthy. |

At the time, $4M was a hefty price tag for a guy that wasn't a guaranteed top 4 dman. Plus, he was the Flyers 5th dman for a while. $4M seems like a lot for a 5th dman.
It was still a good move at the time. I just don't know if it was a slam dunk on Homer's side. Part of the reason he came for a 2nd was because of the length and amount left on his deal. You assume risk when you take that kind of money on. Mez contract has become a bit of a problem this offseason. |
