He maybe be overrated but he is a 30 goal scorer. A first round pick and a prospect at least. He could also headline a package for a top winger, dman, or goalie.
- Dgmilazz

If they could get a 1st and a prospect he would've been traded already. A 2nd alone is the most I'd see them getting for him. A low second at that. A 3rd is more likely with maybe a 2nd or 3rd tier prospect

Garth Snow would hear a dial tone soon after this proposal.
- Cptmjl

He would get the dial tone before he finished saying first round pick.

If he does get an extenison I don't think it should be any longer then 2-3 years but I think it will depend on how this season is going before Garth desides what he wants to give him.

And your fun look back friday fact...

In 2008 the Islanders trade Mike York To the Flyers for Randy Robitaille and a 5th round pick

That 5th round pick.....Matt Martin!

I always like looking back on trades and seeing the true fruits of them a few years down the line!

Are they even in talks yet about an extension? Let's see what he is even asking for before we debate on if they should sign or trade him.

The Islander blog is locked again? What's the point of having a blogger if you can't have comments on their thread? At this point what does she provide for this site? Not even what does she provide for Islander fans, what does she do for hockeybuzz? She serves no purpose whatsoever.

Who would take his spot? Unless the Islanders get a LW that can step in this season I'm opposed. They could even get a right wing and move PMB to the LW since he is a lefty anyway. We could probably get a haul for this guy.
- Dgmilazz

...well, i guess i dont need to answer that anymore.

thats ridiculous...if Cal Clutterbuck can fetch a top 2 isles prospect, matt moulson can get more than just a 2nd rounder.

Not to re-open this conversation but Minny (will have) won that trade if Nino projects accordingly, so we gave up a little more to unload him. GS & CW will not tolerate distractions and insubordinate behavior, that's for sure - I would like to have seen him one full season, from the start of camp before giving up on a first rounder. Think we still could have gotten CC with other assets if he was a true target signing, vs. a convenient means-to-an-end for Nina. But that's life.
That said, I'm so glad to have a blog for which to write and share my thoughts and feelings. Maybe someday soon, the Islanders will have a functional blog and blogger on this site but for now....this will do!

Honestly, I just dont think the Isles are going to trade JT's best friend when he still scores 30 goals a year. He isnt paid to play defense, he is paid to score goals and thats what he does... He goes into the high traffic areas and bangs the puck home. Not to mention, some people thought he was playing a little banged up last year (I thought so too) and that could of been why there was a decrease in hustle and play...

I think the Isles will let him play this year out and if he has his typical Moulson year notching 30goals and adding around 30assists, the Isles will extend him a few years at a little less then what JT is getting.
(3-5yrs prob about 5milllion a year)

ill buy that he might have been banged up but the "he isn't paid to play defense" is the biggest cop out in sports...everyone has to be responsible in their own end....everyone...look at the bruins blackhawks..kings...no passengers there

A top 2 isles prospect that everybody and their brother knew wanted out on top of a not so impressive first yr in the NHL(I know the reasons but when it comes to trades its a factor). I think his point is that the rest of the league and its GM's can see what kind of player moulson is thirty goals or not. The return if traded will not be as high I'd think as most on ere would like to believe?

No I agree, everyone has to chip in and do their part but when they gave him the contract, the Isles knew he wasnt a two-way Bergeron type player.

Before last year, he wasnt nearly as bad on defense as he was last year (injury or not) you could also look to other linemate and his inability to get out of the zone or make a pass, leaving them trapped in the defensive zone for extended periods of time, over exposing his weakness.

But we will see, thats why I think they will let him play out the year... Although I also think, regardless of his play (unless is downright atrocious) the Isles will extend him with this year just deciding on the amount of years and price.

Last season he was blaringly bad at times defensively. I can't count how many times he just completely stopped skating when the puck went the other way? He was at times far worse than boyes.

I dont disagree with you at all... But I will say Boyes did not help on the defensive side either.

Absolutely, it definitely didn't help that line. Neither of them were capable of the puck possession game the isles played from mid season on out. In fact they were glaringly bad at it. Bailey looked good on that line I hope he gets another opportunity on it? I believe with some regular time on that line you'll see a more balanced line one that will give JT a better chance to succeed more so than now at least.

If he is healthy, PMB is gonna help... If they collapse on JT leaving PMB with some room, he could have a really good year. Him being healthy for a full season is the question tho. PMB is probably the most talented player the Isles have put next to JT yet.

And yes, I want the Isles to give Bailey another look on JT's wing... He looked really good there.
