I had a Burmese python for years. Thing was huge. I had 2 kids, 2 dogs and a cat at the time and never had a issue. Mine was well fed and handled all the time unlike that one. That makes a huge difference. - HouseArrest187
Yeah that's for true. Not something that happens very often in this part of the world. |

what i find pretty interresting is the argument gretzky being traded to LA is what made hockey popular in the states most certainly the west coast. on the sportscenter mini doc, mcnall claimed that hockey would have not grown really at all in western US had gretz not come to LA, he went on to say even the florida teams would probably not exist.. kinda crazy to think that out of the history of the NHL there have been only a few players, say, gretz, lemieux richard that have done more for the game than just playing it. any ameerican born players even come close to that kind of influence? |

That trade happened 2 years before i was born. Still pisses me off to no end. As a kid i'd wear a kings jersey all the time hated the oilers. Try explaining to a young three four and five year old that the best players in the world got traded from edmonton because the managment got to greedy. All i understood at the time was they were trading superstars i loved away for no good reason. Anyhow i didn't start watching the oilers again until around 97 I whent to a oilers training camp and todd marcant shot a puck off the glass infront of me and then fell over laughing at my reaction. Ryan smyth signed an autograph for me that day and i've never looked back. I've got a big picture of cojo personaly signed up on my way, i've got one of ryan smyth whitch my mum and dad whent crazy to get for me after they traded him. And i was much older at the time they traded smyth but i again lost fath in the oilers managment. YOu get attached to these guys even though you don't know them, they are role models for so many young boys who want to play hockey. All i can say is that oilers fans have suffered threw so man classless deals over the years so much poor treatment from the oilers managment staff. Thats why richard that trade still means so much to this day it had a huge impact. Lots of it nagative too, none of it gretzkys fault. |

Now, I certainly will not argue about the adequacy of the return, but:
Jimmy Carson couldn't turn left. I'm not joking about this. I remember going to watch him play for the Oilers after the deal, and the guy couldn't turn left. He had to turn to his right going the entire way around if he wanted to go left. I know dogs with more talent on skates than Carson had. He was Zoolander.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't recall any dogs putting up 561 points in 626 games. Back to back 100 point seasons would suggest that he did indeed have some skills. One of those seasons being the year he was traded for Gretzky. |

good blog...... finally. I heard or saw somewhere that sather told him he could back out and not be traded but he declined. He had a say and he knew what he could do for hockey in the states, plus being the greatest player I bet he had something to prove to himself and wanted to go and try and take a basement team to the cup which he almost did. I still think Jari Kurri was the 2nd best oiler then fuhr then mess. When mess got older he really showed a lot of leadership and he deserves to be 2nd its just Kurri was my favorite besides of course the GREAT ONE |

The next chapter is even more interesting. The whole reason Carson asked to be traded from Edmonton had nothing to do with him wanting out of Edmonton either. Pocklington gave him a contract offer which was crap, told him to sign it by the end of the day, Wilbur was his agent and after talking wtih him he said I'm not signing it. Pocklington said fine, you're done here. Pocklington then spun it in the media that Carson wanted out.....Carson didn't. He loved the type of hockey the Oilers played, felt it suited him just fine. The Messier/Carson incident if it happened at all came after the argument between Pocklington and Carson, who was just 21 at the time. |

There's a reason he couldn't turn left, his knee was hurt....but he was told to play through it by management. Pocklington not only screwed you guys with the Gretzky trade, but his greed and want to save face also ruined Carson. I'm glad it led to you guys getting some good assets back in the end, and another Cup but there's no reason Carson couldn't have been in Edmonton for years too. |
