I think the Oilers can easily get a good bottom 6 for Hemsky, but they're just being stubborn and want more

Clouts.

Your confusing people.

Are u saying smid is a weak 5 or 6.

Are you saying he is great 3 or 4?

Or are you just backtracking.

I am saying smid is obviously a great 3 or 4 on any team. Numbers support this. Other teams are high on smid. Its pretty much a no brainer that smid is one of our Best players. He is on a great contract.

Blocking shots indicates poor skating... Wtf you get that from. Ill be polite and just say that's something I've never heard and am surprised you actually believe that.

I don't think there's much appetite out there for him now.

The scary part is people keep putting him on the radio to spew his misguided opinions.

I have no problem questioning Dubnyk. His numbers are great, but he always, and I mean always, lets in one infuriating soft goal per game. This said, he's been getting hammered with 119 shots per game behind a 3rd rate D, and deserves a better chance to shine. But when you're an old school Oiler fan like me, you find yourself thinking "Fuhr would have had that," or "Billy Ranford would have had that," or "Cujo would have had that." The Oilers legacy is full of bad D's being covered up by mass goal scoring and spectacular goaltending. No it won't win us a cup, but since this team isn't there yet anyway, it would make the waiting way more fun.

You're not getting it.

1st, I don't hate the guy. Saying he's perhaps not a long-term answer and saying I hate the guy are two completely separate things.

2nd, my point was, the Oilers need to play Smid in a 1/2 role because they don't have better options. On a team with good D, he'd be, at best, a 3/4 guy. In saying this, I'm not insulting him at all. I'm being realistic.

3rd, why do you think the guys has to block so many shots? Because he can't keep up. He's an absolute warrior, like a Jason Smith. Every team benefits from having a guy who will do anything, especially when it comes to sacrificing himself to make a play. But quit being so emotionally attached to the player and look at him objectively. His offense has never been there, he's not brilliant at moving the puck out of his zone, and blocks often indicate a defense's inability to skate. In a 5/6 role, at a reasonable contract amount, I'd love him. But as a 1/2? He's not that good. And the fact the Oilers need to use him that way indicates roster issues, not issues with Smid himself.

- Maxbone

Have you even played hockey? Do you have any concept of what is involved in playing defense? Do you realize many blocked shots come from playing the PK? Do you realize a lot of those block shots happen while maintaining the box, which doesn't require being a great skater, from the perimeter and points? What the heck does his supposed inability to skate have to do with him blocking shots?

I don't understand why people keep sticking perron on the 3rd like. We brought him in to round out the 2nd did we not
- HouseArrest187

My thought there is that we're running three relatively even lines.

Perron-Gordon-Kulemin is not poor offensively, and is perhaps a better possession line than the other two. It's not a slight, but moreso an exciting possibility that distributes skill evenly (at least between the 2nd and 3rd lines).

Cleary is free. Boyle wouldn't cost much. I think OTT wouldn't let Greening go for scraps, played top comp and did okay, he'd be a perfect shut down winger for Gordon. Kulemin makes sense with TO needing cap room, also a perfect shut down winger for Gordon
- TheNugeIsHuge

Cleary is free, but dependent on creating a bit of cap space, which is why I included him among them.

Greening would be great if Ottawa wanted to add a little more skill via Hemsky. Frankly at this point I'd sweeten a hemmer deal to get a versatile player like greening. You never know whether they'd like any more defensive depth should the Cowen situation continue to go south for them.

At the very least, Kuli and Greening are PERFECT targets for next off-season.

They're all on Netflix... I think the 4th season is exclusive to Netflix, but I could be wrong.

I did an English assignment on the Dos Equis guy a couple of years ago...

When the Kings were rebuilding, we had a stockpile of young talent, like your team. Players we dealt to help improve our team we had to give to get some talent back. For example, We traded Schenn, SImmonds and Johnson and in return we received Carter and Richards.

Now some of you may think that the talent you have is not worthy of a Carter or a Richards type player...If you feel or think that way, your a million miles away from building a championship team.

Perhaps our teams needs were different than yours is now. At the time, our bottom 6 was pretty good and our top 6 needed some help. Still, it's easier to acquire bottom 6 players than top 6. I just don't understand why its so difficult for your team to make a move.

Also, keep in mind you draft a player in the first round, does not mean they are going to be a sure thing either...Sell high when you have the chance.

- blk4x499

That wa a good post and I agree 100%. Now I do t want to actually trade any of our top 6 but if I were Mac T I would seriously consider a proposal like this:
To Edmonton :
Brandon Dubinski
Nick Foligno
Fedor Tyutin

To Columbus
Nail Yakupov
Anton Lander
Martin Marincin
2014 1st

Regardless of whether Columbus would make the trade, this is the kind of deal that Mac would absolutely have to consider.
Hall Nuge Ebs
Perron Gags Hemmer
Foligno Dubinski Jones
Smyth Gordon Joensuu

Tyutin Petry
J.Schultz Ferrence
Belov Smid

Without Yak, I think this a way thicker line up.
