WHats this for?
- jak521

Every year, the STH have what's called a town hall meeting where (I believe) Snider, Lukko/Luuko/whatever, Holmer, and Lavi sit down and basically give you the state of the team and do a Q&A. I think a few scouts are there too. Not sure how it goes, it may be by groups. Never done it before.

I wouldn't worry too much. I think bringing Laughton up and giving him only bottom-feeder minutes is possibly even worse than another year in Junior. If I'm the Flyers, I don't rush him at all. We don't need him right now, as we have too many natural centers as-is.

This team will have (barring any trades) Giroux/Schenn/Coots/Lecavalier/Talbot past this year. The only center who's probably not coming back next year is Hall, which still only frees up a 4th line role. So do you not want him to play next season either?

I'm of this opinion as well.

For me, the kid has to distance himself from the competition greatly in order to stick with the big club.

I went one year back when they held it at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. It's OK.

They are usually pretty forthright in answering questions (at least they were to me). They'll probably have some young players there giving autographs.

It's a good chance to see Paul Holmgren up close and see how intimidating he still looks, even at his age.

Laughton projects as a third line defensive center. His upside is a second line center. Allowing him to play on the 4th line would probably be the perfect place to start him. Let him worry about the defensive aspects of the game in limited time. Allow the offense to come when it comes.

Because, by Flyers law, the team must have a teenager on the roster at all times.

I would LOVE to ask Snider how "Hands on" he is when it comes to team personnel and management. Does he every make player personnel decisions? (Bryz)

You're trying to develop the player not save money. A year on the 4th line will put him ahead in his development than another year in juniors. He's already proven that he can be a PPG player in juniors while playing very good two-way hockey.

So what if he ends up hitting rfa or ufa a year early. I would be happy to pay him, if he develops into a good player. He won't be making over $3M until 5 or 6 years from now. There is so much than can happen between now and then.

They've been pretty good at developing young forwards. They aren't perfect (Sharp), but I believe it depends on the player. If Laughton was strictly an offensive forward, then I would want the team to wait until he was a top 9 possibly top 6 player. There is no sense in putting a strictly skilled guy on the 4th line.

In Laughton's case, he is a two-way agitating forward. Playing the 4th line will allow him to get acclimated to the defensive responsibilities of the NHL without having a ton of pressure to stop other team's top lines or score. If he plays on the third line, he will be with Couturier matching up against other team's top lines in.

The 4th line will also allow him to take some draws but not important ones. (Hall can take defensive zone draws seeing as how he's on the team to take those types of face-offs.)

HOW??? DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THERE HAVE ONLY BEEN 3 GOOD PLAYERS TO EVER PLAY UNDER THE AGE OF 23 IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL? YOU SHOULD NOT BE USING ELC YEARS UP UNLESS THE PLAYER IS PREPARED FOR A 600-POINT SEASON!

Honestly, if they move either Mez or Grossmann for cap space, and then sign Gagne, Laughton will have next to no shot to make the team as they are not going to keep him to be a spare forward

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Vinnie-Read
Gagne-Couturier-Simmonds
Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo
Rosehill

Unless he significantly outplays Hall, he is going back to the OHL if they sign Gagne.

I really hope at the very least (if they don't re-sign Gagne) the Flyers give Scott Laughton his 9 games. If he made the NHL roster out of an abbreviated training camp last year, who knows what he could do with a full length one this time around. He also took his demotion back to Oshawa last year as motivation and was one of the best players in the OHL. He likely would've put up nice offensive numbers (he was still above a PPG) if it wasn't for suspensions. If they decide to keep him up on the big club, I hope they try him out on Hall or Couturier's left wing, assuming those are your third and fourth line centers.

Sorry for the intrusion, I'm a 2 year "lurker" who came across this site when I started my internship. I decided to register this summer and couldn't help myself from commenting today because I'm a huge advocate of Scott Laughton playing in the NHL next season.

I know that, yes, the fact that he's on an ELC and, if he's returned, we can use the slide rule, then it's cool to free up a contract slot. That said, if he proves that he's the best fit for a role that he can play (4th line wing/3rd line center/whatever) then he should play. If he doesn't prove he belongs or is a good fit at training camp, then he shouldn't.

Why would he have to significantly outplay Hall? If he outplays Hall, then he should be playing. Keep in mind, the entire starting lineup will most likely be decimated by injury within 5 minutes of the season starting, so Hall will get time if he's a healthy scratch to start the season.
