Tell me how that makes any sense, how can you be worse 5-5 than on the PK defensively? - GOA88
Its a completely different way of playing defense.

I think you better look at the numbers again mainly Datsyk argument man, he could score 100 points a year & why doesn't he???? - puckhead17
I think I have the numbers dead on. Datsyuk and Toews were both point a game players last Season.

Do any of you even watch Giroux play? I cant believe I have to defend him on a flyers blog. I guess everyone outside of Philly believes him to be one of the top 3-5 players in the league, for obvious reasons, but you guys dont. - GOA88
Giroux is a fantastic player.. my favorite Flyer (i named my dog- female- Roux after him)... but lets be serious. One fantastic season doesnt make you the top 3-5 player in the league. He needs to continue doing that, scoring in the top 5 to be even considered. |

I stand corrected on that one
He's only had a 97 point year and injured a few years but pretty close to being a PPG player, I was wrong, he's the exception though |

Does it matter that they dont score in the top 5ish every year? If a team has more sources of offense than just that player, it shouldnt matter. Id rather have a guy that produces at a point per game pace AND plays at a Selke level defensivly, than one who scores 90+ points every year but has a weak defensive game. In the big picture, for a competitive team, those 10 to 15 points lost a year due to responsible defensive play shouldn't have a strong effect on a teams total offense. - JAKEw1234

Yeah I'm corrected on that, both good examples but maybe the only ones
Not many players can play better 5on 5 and produce more and more usually.
Datsyk is the best example |

Claude is a career .87 ppg player, whereas Datsyuk is a career .98 |

He would be, if he played with more defensive consitency. It's not so much that he just isn't good defensively, it's more that he isn't good consistenly. When he's on his game defensively, though, he's actually pretty amazing to watch. If he worked on his defensive consistency he could definitely be our Toews/Bergeron/Datsyuk |

Then you must be one of those who thinks because Stamkos can score 60 goals he is clearly one of the best, along with Malkin. Its not all about points. Toews, Datsyuk, and Giroux are better then those players cause they play a complete game. And still put up some damn good offensive numbers. This isnt based off the 93 point season Gioroux had but you shouldnt be judging him or anyone else for that matter on a weird 48 game season. |

He's 24
Datsyk is what 35?
But it's not all about that, I think this all started with Voraceks game, would we want him bagging 75 points leaving the zone early a lot (ala Briere)?
Or producing less and playing tighter, I don't think Lavys system is playing tighter anyway |

Odds are he never will become the best player in the league. He's damned good as is. Sure he can improve in his own end, but he's a top 10 player right now, and knocking on the door to being a top 5 player imo.
On the list of worries, Giroux falls in between the guy who scans your ticket, and the slob in the upper tank that makes a fool of himself. |

Giroux is not better than Stamkos or Malkin. Don't be ridiculous.
G can do a lot of good things on a consistent basis, but he is nowhere near the skill level of Malkin, nor has the scoring prowess of Stamkos. |

The point is simple, a player can play both ends of the ice at a high level. |

So wait... its not fair to judge him off of last season, but is only fair to judge him off of his season best two years ago? come on dude... Im judging him based on his career. He has one season where he score over a ppg. Its not like G has gone off and put up three seasons of 90+ points. He was excellent two seasons ago.. played his ass off. But, if you take of those shades you got on, you might see that there is DEFINITE room for improvement in his game. |

Whew!
Giroux's my favorite player, but Malkins the best offensive player in the world (my opinion). If he rammed the net every play with the puck, he'd either get a scoring chance or draw a penalty |

Yes, not every player though, that's the difference between the elite & one others though, like earlier Datsyk is the extreme example |

I thought we were all just saying that G needs to improve his defense?
If he reaches a Selke level of defense, then we'll try to make that argument. Until then, Stamkos and Malkin are still better than him. |

Giroux is not the 2 way player that you think he is. While he is a solid player on the PK, he is average overall defensively. It's a weakness in his game that needs to improve. And I beleive he will. |

I disagree that Giroux is one of the best 2-way players in the game. He is one of the most offensively gifted players, and he isnt terrible defensively, but calling him one of the best two way players because he puts up a lot of points just isnt accurate. - jak521
Agreed. I'd say his defensive game is (at times) more than adequate. But there are times where it's really lacking. A little more attention to it, and he'll be fine. |

I don't think anyone, myself included is expecting Giroux to reach a Selke level. But there is a lot of room for improvement in Giroux's overall defensive game. And offense is not a valid excuse. |

Does Malkin and Stamkos play the PK, win faceoffs, Check? Hell no!!! They are offensive studs and thats all they are. You like the glamour and I like a player that can do it all. |
