He took $1mm in Real estate and turned it into $25 cash in 5 years. He took over a championship team and did nothing to sustain it.
The Howard extension was way too much money and way too soon, Trading away Lee, Papelbon...now he's re-signed Utley despite his horrible knees and he sat on his hands at the TDL instead of getting assets in when the team was clearly going nowhere.
He's been abysmal - Jsaquella
THIS!
Thank you Charlie! You took em to the top and Philly will always love you for that. Its too damn bad that you have to be the fall guy for Amaro's ineptitude.
And the heck with you Rube!! Would it have been too much to ask to let Charlie finish the season and then retire with class. Shame on you!

Agreed. Total insult to Manuel. |

The Flyers seem rather predictable in the types of players they like playing for them. Chris Pronger, Jason Smith, Ray Emery and Wayne Simmonds are all examples of players I always wanted and knew someday this team would eventually acquire. Vincent Lecavalier is one of those players who fits the Flyers mold but it never crossed my mind in my wildest dreams he would land here. On the other hand, Keith Tkachuk, Rob Blake, Jerome Iginla, Shane Doan, Joe Thornton and Shea Weber are others I would have bet money we would have forsure picked up too but never did. Who are the players you knew we would pick up and did, while also betting on other players you thought we would have picked up but never did? |

and the day they were set to "Honor Charlie Manuel for his 1,000 MLB wins" they instead fire him. Disgusting. |

It's possible that Charlie pushed the issue with RAJ. Said something like if you "aren't bringing me back, and won't give me a vote of confidence just fire me now"
Playing devils advocate. |

It's also possible Amaro knows what he doing. Possible, but highly unlikely. |

Perhaps, but I think all Amaro had to say would have been: We will assess every aspect of the team at the end of the season. Charlie is our manager, end of story.
I think Charlie would have understood and would have accepted that, he's not stupid. He knows the team is doing poorly and he knows how old he is. Amaro is a scumbag IMHO.

I will watch the Golf channel this evening. Maybe Frank Nobilo and David Feherity will have some updated information. - PLindbergh31
I watched it earlier today. Tiger Woods suffered a shoulder injury in a pickup Hockey game. He's out for the remainder of the PGA Tour Season. |

or another spin is that maybe they wanted him to get to 1,000 earlier in the year and can him sooner but they suck so bad this year...it took them this long to get the win |

Sadly...i think the team has tuned him out by the way they have played most of the year. The coach takes the fall...nature of sports.
they needed a reason to Ryno from going to another team to coach...Charlie knew it... |

Watched the press conference and can confidently say that was not even close to being the case. Charlie was asked (the last question) "How he planned to spend his time considering he lived baseball 24 hours a day". He responded that he was going to sneak in to the park when nobody was around and leave before they got there.
It was a tough presser to watch. He didnt quit. |

The real problem is the terrible talent evaluation in the front office. RAJ changed the philosophy of the team the minute he took over.. and has led them down a black hole since. You could have any manager in the league with this team and it wouldnt matter.

Not buying that. Sandberg could have been quietly told that the job was his at the end of the season. He's always been a class act and I have to think he would have had no problem with letting Manuel finish out the year.

true...but with the team in a true funk and the trade deadline pass.. the idiot GM wanted to take the heat of himself...so they got rid of the guy they could get rid of... |

What?
You didn't like the Delmon Young pickup as their right field starter? |
