I'm stunned that ML couldn't nail down a job here...proven he can play in the NHL...former AHL all star... |

Nice read, but the Cup Winning goal was not shot from behind the goal line. Still a tough goal to swallow losing the Cup on, but it was probably one of the weirdest Championship winning plays in history. No one in the entire building or television knew it went in other than Patrick Kane and 1 or 2 Hawks
. - DinkusMaximus
Was definitely weird being in the building at that time. I almost (ALMOST) felt bad for the Hawks fans there. |

Leighton is a huge reason we were even in the SCF in the first place.
Yes the Kane goal sucked but that goal was unstoppable and totally sick. - MrBigglesworth
A thousand pardons effendi, but I do not understand. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Leighton's Bittersweet Legacy, Quick Hits - bmeltzer
Leighton's 2010 run was something you had to see to believe. He was able to take advantage of being picked up on waivers by a team who desperately needed a goalie, after losing their starter to a career threating injury, during a season that saw him as the spot light of a Winter Classic and a huge part of a playoff run. You cannot write this stuff...although Bill just did.
Outside of that one season, I am finally pleased that Leighton's career as a Flyer can finally come to an end. The Leighton, Shelley etc jokes really get beaten to death here. |

Weirdest? Id say most pathetic, but I don't go easy on him. |

It was definitely weird. Not the goal itself, but the fact that no one knew what the heck was going on. |

I firmly believe that his play wasn't all that spectacular in the playoffs. He looked terrible. But he stopped a lot of shots. His side to side abilities are the worst I've seen in the NHL, his reflexes are like that of a slug.
If someone had given him Adderall we would have won the cup that year. Dude had no concentration what so ever.
I was mad when they picked him up. Mad when they resigned him. Mad when they let him play. And my madness was reinforced when that Kane goal went in.

The only thing I found weird about it, was that Leighton had no idea where it was. How you lose track of that shot saddens me. |

It definitely made it worse watching from home. After a couple moments of confusion came that awful sinking feeling. I'm pretty sure I sat silent for a good ten minutes.
I'll always remember that moment vividly. |

Say what you will about the 09-10 team making it in on the very last game of the season, but that roster had the recipe for a cup winner IMO. Everyone had their roles and the only thing lacking was consistant goaltending. Depressing that a team with (healthy) Pronger, Richards, Briere, Timonen, Laperriere, Gagne, Carter, Giroux, Hartnell, Carle, Leino, Betts, ect, went through so much, came soo close only to have it all end in shock, silence, and disbelief the way it did..
I still have nightmares |

The worst was having to endure Gary Bettmann in the flesh -- and endless Jeff Carter & Michael Leighton scapegoating since. |

Well, fortunately, those things are behind us now and we don't have to go through them anymore.

Can I just say this has been the WORST off season ever for me?
Sun one of my other dogs died. He'd been sick for months and he went into a full system collapse Sun night. And my uncle died last week. I almost flew back to Texas for the service but last minute didn't. Which is good or the fiancee would have had to deal with our dieing dog without me there and my guilt would have been so much worse.
So in the last 3 weeks I've lost 2 of my dogs, and my uncle. The angel of death can keep on walking please... (like on to Leighton's NHL career) I don't think I can take much more.
Hopefully I'll be back for some witty banter soon. I'm in shock if you want the truth... |

I'm only subjected to them when I punish myself and visit Hockeybuzz's threads. The last few days, I've stuck with just reading Bill's blog & moving on. |

Well, to be fair, the Jeff Carter scapegoating is Matt Carle's fault. |
