Can I just say this has been the WORST off season ever for me?
Sun one of my other dogs died. He'd been sick for months and he went into a full system collapse Sun night. And my uncle died last week. I almost flew back to Texas for the service but last minute didn't. Which is good or the fiancee would have had to deal with our dieing dog without me there and my guilt would have been so much worse.
So in the last 3 weeks I've lost 2 of my dogs, and my uncle. The angel of death can keep on walking please... (like on to Leighton's NHL career) I don't think I can take much more.
Hopefully I'll be back for some witty banter soon. I'm in shock if you want the truth... - FlyersGrace

Still can't believe he was slated to be our #1 goaltender until Bob stole the show.

After watching what happened last season and this off season I'm finally forced into concluding that the Flyers front office and management have absolutely zero clue on how to evaluate and obtain the right goalie for their team. |

They've certainly hired enough people (Neil Little, Nitty, Jeff Reese) to assist with finding and cultivating goaltenders. It certainly isn't lack of effort. |

Vancouver gave Schneider away for nothing. I wonder if Philly even tried. Bernier from LA didn't exactly take multiple Brinks trucks, either.
Anyway, for me end of last season and this off season was simply the last straw and led to my epiphany that they have no clue about goaltending vis-a-vis their team makeup. Go back and look at Bill's blog where he listed the Flyers goalies of the 2000s. It's not even that all of the goalies were bad in their own right, but more that most of them were not a good fit for the formulation of the teams they were playing on. |

I'd have much preferred a tandem of Emery and Schneider/Bernier than Mason. But as I said, this was just the last straw leading me to my conclusion. The last decade + haven't been all that great. |

The 9th overall pick while hosting the draft to boot... |

Imho, yes, it was a low price to pay. Going by the "bird in the hand" theory, a known quantity - Schneider - is worth much more than a draftee. |

Yep. And that's for a goalie who was given the starting job and lost it to a guy everyone wanted gone. As for Bernier, he's got less than 60 games of NHL experience, so I'm not sure he's gonna live up to the hype. |

So you'd rather trade a #9 overall pick for a guy who already lost his first chance at a starting job? I'll keep the pick. |

But Steve Mason rules.
Sorry, I like a lot of what the Flyers management does, but when it comes to goaltending they are in the dark. |

And when Horvat goes on to be a 30/65 player and Schneider, again, can't hold down a starting job, people would be saying the Flyers don't know how to deal with goalies. If Mason struggles, it cost us Leighton and a 3rd, so I can live with that. |

If Schneider were already carrying the load in Vancouver, I'd agree with you. It's a risk for both sides made riskier (in hindsight) by Kovalchuk's departure.
That said, Schneider will probably be Marty 2.0 and limit the Flyers to a -1.25 goals against average. |

So what is going on with Manning and Wellwood's new contracts? would have expected Wellwood to accept the qualifying offer and didn't think signing Manning would be an issue |

Not sure but, honestly, I wouldn't be upset (at least not a lot) if they didn't accept. Basically using up a contract slot and cap space on a player who is not going to play this year. Manning, hopefully, can have a big bounce-back season. |
